And Dependeiits Help For Veterans THE PERFORMANCE . . . Over % Million dollars raised annually through Poppies, brings quick help to needy veterans and dependents, A PERSONAL MESSAGE from President-Elect AlexB. Walker The members of Branch 43, Royal Canadian Legion are very proud to be part of a National Organization that has a membership of over 1,500,000 War Veterans. These war veterans through their membership in Legions across the country are playing on important part in community affairs in every part of Canada. Here in Oshawa we are proud of the part we have played in keeping pace with the growth of our wonder- ful city of Oshawa, ond we hope to be able to play an even greater port with the construction of our new Royal Canadian Legion Hall this year. We in the Legion, like other service organizations, are feeling the greater needs of this fast expanding city of ours, and we hope that through the facilities of our new building we will be in a better position to meet these needs. Like all other Legion Branches across Canada, Branch 43 Oshawa is actively engaged in community effairs and our main endeavors are the sponsorship of Minor Baseball and Track and Field which provides recreation for hundreds of Oshawa youngsters and we hope that with the opening of our new building we will be able to further these projects. Service to veterans and their dependents is Our most important function and our doors are always open to any of these people who are in need of ossistance either in pensions, treatment legislation or in emergency welfare. There is still a great need for improvements in the pension legislation of our country, and the Royal Canadian Legion from Dominion Command down to the smallest Branch are continually making representations to the government for these changes. At this time, even though our membership is over 900, there ore still a great mumber of veterans in Oshawo and district who are not members of this great orgonization, ond | wish to personally invite oll veterans in this area to become members of Branch 43, Oshawa, and assist us to maintain our inter- ests in the welfare of veterans . . >their dependents . . , and the widows and orphans 'of the deceased, bY Virtue" of our-strength numbers ALEX'B.
