Or is this a feminine longing that knows no national- ity 'or geographical bounds? For years I thought the an- swer was: "Primarily Ameri- can women." But recently I}: | haye met more and more| women from many other lands who--just like Mrs. American Homemaker--are seeking out- side interests to supplement ' their roles as busy wives and others. And just as it is here, this need for something extra is tied up with a sense of fulfilment as often as it is with finance. This is the story of one Span- ish woman I have mean Christine Williams Domecq who used this feminine yearn- ing for something better to de- velop a sherry vinegar which she bottles and sells to restau- rants. As the wife of Beltran Dom- eeq, a member of the Pedro Domecq sherry family and head 'of. a famous Spanish sherry 'winery, Mrs. Domecq hardly needs to work to add to the family income. Besides, her home life is busy as she lives *with her family of seven chil- 'dren in a home that was once f Spanish vineyard house in Jerez de la Frontera. ACTIVE PARTICIPATION In addition to caring for her family with a minimum of help, 'she entertains for her husband, who is also deputy mayor of Jerez, and participates actively dn church and volunteer work. But like many women, Mrs. Domecq has sought an extra outlet to give her the epportu- 'nity to do something on her own, « "Atthe present time, my little Bherry vineyard business is all @ big joke to my husband," she told me recently, "and my chil- Aren tease me about it, too. But even though my profits are hardly noticeable as yet, I think my family is a little proud of me and I feel.I am doing some- thing special, BLEND RECIPES . "IL have always enjoyed try- ing out different combinations and blending my own recipes," Mrs. Domecq said. "So, with a HOUSEHOLD HINT « Fruit. stain in a fabric that won't take boiling water treat- ment? Sponge with cool water; then apply a glycerine or soap- less shampoo, as soap will set the stain. If traces remain after treatment, use a weak chlorin bleach. 0 " There are two types of pork spareribs, back or loin ribs, and side ribs. Back ribs are the choicest because they contain more meat than side ribs. They are sold in fairly long, uniform strips about three or four inches wide. Strips of side ribs are less regular in shape and may in- clude part of the breast bone. i WIFE PRESERVER Protect..your..hands. while house-cleaning with a pair of old or mis - matched cotton gloves.
