The Liftlock City squad is currently enjoying a great big winning streak -- they've gone a full 12 games without suffering a defeat -- and a win here tonight will put them right up at the top of the OHA Junior "A" scramble. Aside from 'hoping to end -Peter- borough's long hot streak, the Generals are also looking for that win that will re-establish their grip on the top rung. Meanwhile, the pressure is "easing up" just a little with members of the Oshawa Generals ,Bobby Orr and Danny O'Shea getting a chance to relax, after a hectic early week. Both turned in brilliant performances against the Russians. By the way, the road to the Civic Auditorium is all cleaned up now, so the one-way traffic system should make the Auditorium trip, both to it and away from it, after the game, a lot easier. That first gun can signify many things for the years ahead, quiet places, rich days and the personal adventure of the field. But right now, his first gun is a recognition of coming man- hood, by those who know and respect the subject.- Having a gun doesn't suddenly make the boy a man, but it is a sign, given by men, that the young receiver is no longer a boy. Many past generations have prized their symbols of new manhood. It might have been a horse, a pair of sea boots, lance, plume or the new .22 at Christmastime. There are people in our country today, who regard guns as symbols of violence and evil, they think firearms and hunting should be outlawed. With this thinking, a young man can always get skis, .or a football, or even a motorbike for Christmas -- all very fine and he would enjoy them. But his can also ski, his little brother has a football and the fat girl next door owns a motorbike. His manhood needs the old test, a true symbol. Society today, prone to say that a young man cannot have a gun, because guns are bad, that the young man is incapable of deciding between good and bad, yet society dares to say. when a youth becomes a man. Our urban life today, the lack of "space" and places to stroll through the country, with a gun, has deprived many a youth of this symbol of manhood, but in spite of these handicaps, now, more than ever before; the opportunity to introduce a youngster to this symbol of responsibility and manhood, presents parents with a challenge that should not be ignored.
