THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, December 17, 1965 --=--------~ we r co aul ui Bis ee | Un iaUusiy BOWMANVILLE -- A number of the residents of Bowman- ville and Darlington Township met last Sunday to consider what measures should be taken to prevent the establishment of the §t. Mary's Cement Co. in the area. Ian Smith of Brookdale-Kings- gray Nurseries gave a brief his- ry of the events to date. Al- abe the consequences of air- ion, concussion from blast- and the like are self-evi- dent, the major drawback to this dd project, he pointed out, is the fact that such an in- discourages rather than encourages further industrial development. As a result, it was soon realized that the im- mediate inconveniences were not as serious as the long-range possibilities. Several members gave per- sonal eye-witness accounts of experiences with similar opera- tions. As an outgrowth of the dis- cussion. which followed, a co- ordinating committee was ap- pointed with Jack Lander as chairman. Other members of this committee include, from Bowmanville, Mrs. L. C. Mason, G. Gilpin and I. Smith and from Darlington, W. Colville, G. White and B. Mutton. All those present pledged their willingness to support the efforts of the committee. It was decided to meet with the mem- bers of the co-ordinating com- mittee in the immediate future. WHITBY DISTRICT BOWLING SCORES ST.
