THE GENERALS By WREN BLAIR General Manager of Oshawa Generals The spirit of Christmas will cease for a couple of hours tomorrow night, at the Civic Auditorium, when the Peter- boro "Petes" move into the Motor City to tangle with the Generals. These two clubs have identical lost-and-lied records and inasmuch as the "Petes" have games in hand, they are by far the biggest threat to the Generals' 'irst place supremacy. Both clubs have lost 5 games and tied 4, and the Generals only have the point advantage because they have played two more games. Additionally, there is a great scoring battle going on be- tween these two clubs, per- haps the greatest in the his- tory of Junior "A" hockey, because the six top scorers in the race are divided equally, three players from Oshawa and three from Peterboro. The three Oshawa snipers are Bobby Orr, Danny O'Shea and Wayne Cashman while the three sharpshooters from Peterboro are Andre Lacroix, Danny Grant and Mickey Red- mond. Bobby Orr moved a point Russian Game A The Junior 'A' All-Stars turned in a great effort at Maple Leaf Gardens Tuesday night before 14,888 fans, with over 2,000 being turned away. The Juniors jumped into a 3-1 first period lead, but were gradually worn down by the older and more experienced Russian National Team. The final outcome was a 4-3 vic- tory for the Russians, but really became a moral vic- tory for the Juniors. The two players loaned from Generals Jottings Looking for a Christmas gift for a young hockey lad? Here's one that may just fill the bill. Frank Orr of Toronto has written a new book called ahead of Lacroix in London Monday night, while O'Shea remained two points back. Since this was written, prior to last night's game in Peter- boro, it is now quite possible that Lacroix has taken the league-scoring lead. Statistics, prior to last night's game, showed Orr in first place with 54 points, Lacroix second with 53, O'Shea third with 51, Grant fourth with 45, Redmond fifth with 35 and Cashman sixth with 34, Peterboro and Oshawa have both lost only once in their past 7 or 8 games and since they meet here tomorrow night and again back in Peter- boro next Thursday, (Decem- ber 23rd) it becomes pretty these teams rest in top spot over Christmas much of it will be decided in these two games this week. Another sell-out crowd is expected here tomorrow night and we hear that an ex- tremely large contingent are journeying up from Peterboro for this clash which starts at 7:15 p.m. at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. For many of the Toronto public it was the first time they had seen Orr play and he re- ceived an ovation almost very time he touched the puck. I'm sure everyone in the Gardens from Oshawa felt a great deal of pride as they heard fans from other com- munities cheer this boy of ours, the Gener: Danny O'S see a young lad from Timmins who becomes a Junior "A" star and is well written.
