Exponents of Modern Jazz in the real modern idiom, they produce a wide variety of enter- tainment, including Rock N' Roll, standards and popular tunes. Frank, a composer in his own right, is on the trumpet, King Herbert Whitaker is on tenor sax, Curley Bridges at piano, Larry Ellis, electric\bass, and Jerry Summers on drums. Frank grew up in the same town as Dizzy Gillespie (Cheraw, 8.C.) and decided early that he didn't want to compete with Dizzy so he learn- ed to play two trumpets in 'my own style'. Critics agree that he has beautiful clarity of tone and perfect control of the two trumpets. Over a period of years, he has developed lip and breath control to play first and second trumpet at the same time. Frank holds a degree in Engi- neering from South Carolina State College. He also played trumpet ("but only one"' in the U.S. Navy Band and later studied at the Chicago Conser- vatory of Music. She has just returned from Vienna where she studied with the noted violin- ist Ricardo Odnoposoff for two years with the aid of a Canada Council Grant. Miss Schrantz is a many-time scholarship winner and her list of solo, chamber and orchestral appearances is extensive and impressive. Janet Thom, pianist, has al- ready appeared in recital in Whitby. She graduated from the Artist Diploma Course with first class standing in 1963. She has appeared several times on CBC radio and television, and has performed, in many recitals in and around "Toronto and her + home city of Vancouver.
