Since then, it has been extended to an area of about 170 miles by 150 miles. Some 8,700 hunters applied for 1964 licences, issued on a draw- from-the-hat basis. A total of 5,750 were successful. This year, 12,600 persons applied and 4,700 got permits. "Hunter success is quite high for anteleope," Dr. Mitchell says. "We figure it's between 80 and 92 per cent. With this number (4,700 permits) we esti- mate the harvest hopefully at about 3,600."
