'A feature of the football games between district col- legiates for some years has been the enthusiasm evi- denced by the cheer leaders of the various schools, Not THE TEEN SCENE only do they lend color to these fall events, but they also add to the competitive spirit of the teams. Seen here are the cheer leaders from Henry Street High yt "PERT MISSES CHEER ON FOOTBALLERS School, Whitby. Front, from left, are Bev. Bassett, Pam Milner, Sandra Gardiner, Nancy Lawson, Crystal Peleshok and Mary Ann Jensen. Back row, from Students Hold Office, Too; Sadie Hawkins Coming! (EDITOR'S NOTE: The Teen Scene is available each week to carry reports prepared by students of activities at collegiates in Oshawa and neighboring communities. There is a Thursday morning deadline fer Teen Scene material.) Denis O'Connor October 2 finally arrived. After a month and a half of -anxious expectation in close quarters, we now have room to stretch! The O.K. was given and the moving commenced into the senior addition to Denis O'Connor. With what the stu- dents believed to be the utmost precision, desks, books and other articles were transferred. Admist the steady beat of ham- mers, and the continuous hum- drum of men still at work the last few details of completion are under way. With the Grade 12 History course serving as a guide, the "New Regime" was initiated concerning the future conduct ef the students. The first week started off with a bang! October tests were on! We are now awaiting the ver- dict. On behalf of the students, we would like to extend a further welcome to the new members of the faculty -- Sister Mary Judith and Mr. Peter Dales. DONNA POLITO, ROSEMARIE PARISE O'Neill The annual Sadié Hawkins hard-times dance, held on Octo- ber 29, was a smashing suc- cess. A_ local band, The Rivieras, provided the live A- Go-Go entertainment. Turning to Parliament, the ' first session was held on Octo- ber 2. The "Speech from the Throne" was read,, Mr. Halli. day was appointed as Speaker, and the cabinet and committees gave their reports. The yearbook this year will be available in hard or soft covers. In boys' sports, the football game between O'Neill and Done- van was the Eve of Destruc- tion for our Redmen as Done- van dominated most of the play. The field was not grass, but mud and water which prevent- ed either team from making exceptional plays. Donevan won by a count of 19 to 7. Reviewing the feminine side of sports, a powderpuff football team has been organized and a game is-to-be_played_ against McLaughlin. The girls' volleyball teams have been playing exhibition games and a tournament wiil be held at Central on Saturday, October 30. RENE PLEAU Ajax Ajax High School recently held its Student Council elec- tions and the executive this year will be: Peter Hall, presi- dent; Tom Dines, vice - presi- dent; Pat Wells, treasurer and Linda Smith, 12D, secretary. Even without the traditional "Blue" and "White" parties the campaign was an enthusiastic one and gave the nominees a real chance to run on their merit alone. The election assembly was a big hit and we seem to have dis- covered some new "starlets" around Ajax High, namely, those "'lovelies" from the senior football team. Another assembly pas held last week for Gord Trefzger, Ajax High's representative from the government-sponsored cen- tennial travel program. Fiona Thompson's entry of "Annales" was chosen as the title of the Ajax yearbook. The enthusiastic Annales staff is headed by Peggy Norris, editor. This.is the first issue of the Annales and the reception so far by the students has been prom- ising. In conclusion, congratulations to former Ajax student, Mary Ann Azzopardi, on her election as Miss Oshawa. Good luck in the Miss Canada Pageant. This Tuesday the Lake On- tario District volleyball meet will be held at Pickering. The games will commence as soon as possible after dismissal and end approximately at 9.30 p.m, Any student support. will be welcome, Best of luck, girls! Friday night, the students who attended the Russian-American game at the Gardens were pleasantly surprised when both the men's and women's teams perform We had been ex- pecting only the men's team. Also, the All 'Ontario girls' team played a exhibition game' with a challenging team from South Bend. The girls played a hard fought game and the South Bend team was defeated 15-13. The Russian teams were suc- cessful in all their games with the Americans losing by a few points. There will be a film of the game at some future date on Wide World of Sports. In be- tween games, we were enter- tained by some Canadian and Ontario table tennis champions. The choir wiener roast sched- uled for last Friday night was cancelled because of bad weath- er and will be held on Novem- ber 5. ROSEMARY SNOW 'Past' Problem For Portland LONDON (AP)--'I'm trying to live down my precocious past," said Portland Mason, once described as the world's most grown-up little girl. Portland, pretty daughter of actor James Mason, will be 17 shortly. She is here to do a movie part, that of a leggy school girl in a comedy--provid- ing she can handle it along with her studies. "Dad says I.can do the film on condition I keep up my les- sons," she explained. Instead of the pudgy, preten- tious Portland of nine years ago, the Portland of today is poised, intelligent, shapely and articulate. Of her early day image it's been said that: When she was 18 months old she had a night club pallor. That she wore her first girdle at the age of 10, and her first high heels when she was 11. "When I learned to read," said Portland in an interview, "T had to ask dad what preco- cious meant. When he told me, I was furious. You see, there are such simple explanations to the stories that used to go around about me."
