"We were a new club last year when we lost out to Wel- land Meteors," said Jim. "We had a lot of new players and I was a rookie coach. Andon top of everything, we were com- peting with shift ~work." LACK SPONSOR With the current lack of spon- sorship, those connected with the club are simply referring to it as just that -- "the club." If the situation remains as it is now, it is expected the name '"Hawks"--the origi«el name-- will be re-adopted. The site of possible games is also undecided, but Jim is equally confident arrangements will be the same as in previous years. For the past six or seven seasons, most games have been played in the Donevan Collegi- ate gym, with a sprinkling of games at other local: school gymnasia. Speculation is that the Motor City contingent will play in a circuit including teams from Peterborough, Trenton, and Toronto, To help send said foes scamp- ering home for shelter, Jim ex- pects most of his scoring aces to return. The club veteran will be: Bob Booth, rated by his coach as a 'top-notch'? guard.. Booth has played with the club for some 15 seasons. He will be in good company, playing alongside Tom Olinyk, one of the best guards in Ontario. GEORGIA COLLEGE Bob "Buster" Ehlert, a 6'514" centre, with college experience at Ogglethorp (honest) . College in Georgia, Bill Jepma and Mar- cel Boivin are other players to return. Not content to play for just one club, most of the members also play in the Simcoe Boys' Club major system, of which Greg Milosh is the convenor. Milosh's predecessor was Brady, convenor for 10 seasons. After playing basketball in high school and in the Simcoe minor and major systems, Brady coached Simcoe Hall Key- stoners. A Junior and then an _ Inter- mediate club, they played exhi- bition games and tournaments, and-at one time were in the old Industrial League, winning three or four league champion- ships in a row. ONTARIO CHAMPIONSHIP It was from the nucleus of his old Keystoners club that Brady built his present club when he took over last season. Origin- ated as the Hawks by Fred Whalley, they won two. all- Ontario championships before Whalley directed his full atten- tion to his duties as manager of the Oshawa Green Gael la- crosse club. Bruno Wrubel Much Better Squad For Basketball Buffs handled the Hawks for two sem sons before Jim took over. Like Whalley, Jim is active in lacrosse. Most of the summeg months he devotes to the Gar rard Road Minor Lacrosse Association in his capacity as league convenor. Several sea- sons ago, he was convenor of the Oshawa Minor Lacrosse Association. It wasn't long ago that a national lacrosse title -- the Minto Cup -- came to Oshawa. Oshawa Italia soccer club made it to the national final. Oshawa Hawkeyes football team gained a berth in the playoffs for the first time. Umpteen softball titles were won by Motor City teams, and the Oshawa Gen- erals are currently on top of the Junior 'A' hockey league.
