Farm Prices Index Dips OTTAWA (CP)--The index of farm prices of agricultural pro- ducts declined to 263 in August from its 1965 high of 272 in July, the Dominion Bureau of Statis- tics reported today. The bureau said lower prices for livestock and potatoes more than offset higher prices for eggs. The index, based on 1935-39 prices equalling 100, was at 248.9 in August last year and at 244.7 in January this year. It was livestock and potato prices that sent the index up earlier this year. The bureau also reported to- day that average annual wages paid to male farm help on Aug. 15 this year was $1,670 with board provided, compared with r| $1,540 a year earlier. Without board, the average this: year was $2,350 and last year, $2,130. j Plastic Seen | AAs Vital Aid ALICE SPRINGS, Australia 4 (Reuters)--A sheet of plastic ; could mean the difference be- tween life and death for a per- son lost in Australia's waterless outback. In a demonstration in' dry, sandy soil near here, an Aus- tralian scientist showed how, by using a small sheet of plastic, the heat of the sun would con- dense water from the earth and plant material. He dug a small hole, placed a container in the centre and surrounded it with desert shrub- bery. He placed the plastic over the hole with a stone in the middle to make the plastic sag toward the container. The sun shining through the plastic heated the soil and plant material and drew moisture from them which dripped from the underside of the plastic into the container. A three-foot-square sheet of plastic should produce about a pint of water in 24 hours VOTE HODGES [ nopces |x New Democratic Party SKIM MILK + POWDER *SAVE UP TO 26 GY CORN "NEW PACK", A&P FANCY QUALITY *SAVE UP TO 24e 6:: 99: "NEV! 1 ALK", A&P FANCY QUALITY *SAVE UP TO 38 TOMATO JUICE 97-99.
