@ -THE OSHAWA TIMES, Scturdey, September 4, 1965 SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR. verything From Soup To Nuts' . _ BROOKLIN lacrosse fans "whooped it up" last night, when their favorites came roaring back from the brink of elimina- tion in the OLA Senior "A" championship finals, to score @ 13-6 victory over the Excelsiors, right in Brampton, That evens the title series at three games apiece and they are scheduled to go tonight, in the 7th and deciding game, in Brooklin, The place will be jumping! This one coach "Bud" Christie and his n really want to win -- they want that trip west, to face either New Westminster 'Salmonbellies" or Coquitlam, in The Mann Cup finals. The seventh game of the series, now a sudden-death affair, in Brooklin Arena, looms as the big one of the season, around these parts. MEANWHILE, Oshawa Green Gaels are in Mimico to- night and if they handle the "Mounties" as easily as they did here on Thursday night, then that series is all over, New Westminster will represent the West, in the Minto Cup champ- fonship finals -- and they'll be played right here in Oshawa, Unknown to most of the lacrosse 'fans around these parts, Civic Auditorium manager Bill Kurelo had quite a nego- tiation session with the CLA, before it was finally agreed to play The Minto Cup finals in Oshawa. Seems the CLA were for a bargain and an offer from Whitby Arena, at a much lower financial rental, had given the CLA a real bar- gaining position -- but Kurelo stuck to his guns and finally the CLA had to withdraw their objections, It was probably a DECIDING GAME TONIGHT By CLIFF GORDON A sparkling five goal effort by Grant Heffernan last night saved the day for the Brooklin Seniors as they whipped Bramp- ton Excelsiors 13-6 right in Brampton to force a seventh and deciding game at the Brooklin arena tonight for the Eastern Canadian Senior "A" lacrosse championship. Brooklin had lost the fifth Saeed on Wednesday night in rooklin and was all but count- ed out of the series, not having won a game in Brampton this year. They proved to all the experts and themselves that if you play 60 minutes of lacrosse all out it takes a mighty good team to beat you. Brooklin did just that last night as they play- ed perhaps their best game of the year. Brooklin led at the end of each period holding a slim 43 lead at the end of the first, 7-4 at the end of the second and then turning on the power in the third period to win running away. One thing is certain, Whitby Arena wouldn't hold the crowd that will turn out to see Green Gaels play New Westminster in this year's Minto Cup finals and if the CLA had moved the final series to Whitby, it's this writer's unreserved opinion that they would have been utterly stupid. They would have been making a financial blunder --. besides that, their public re- lations status would have toppled to a dismal abyss, around these parts. After all -- "lacrosse" is fighting to get back to the top level and the CLA "'brass" had better recognize the fact that they have to 'go along" in the finals -- with the very few centres that are keeping lacrosse to the fore -- throughout the regular season.
