| & THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thurndey, August 5, 1965 SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR From Soup To Nuts' es front-and-centre, before the sports spotlights, this Week, with some spirited action on tap on at least three fronts, Green Gaels are already tasting blood, in their 4-out-of-7 quarter-final series against St. Catharines Supertests. The Gaels won the first one here at home on Monday night and they go back to St. Kitts tonight for the second gaméof the set, then right back- here tomorrow night, for the third game. Latest reports indicated that only Armstrong is apt to be missing from the lineup --; his back injury being both hampering and painful. Ross Jones had nie' caie banged up but is expected to be ready for action tonignt, or tomorrow night for sure. In the OLA Junior "B" action, Whitby Lasco Steelers open their semi-final round in group playoffs tonight, at home, with the East York Mohawks as their visiting opposition. This is also a 4-out-of-7 series with the East York Mohawks playing their home games in the Brooklin Arena, in an effort to woo the attendance of the lacrosse enthusiasts of this area. And speaking of Brooklin, their Senior team plays in Port Credit tonight and then close out their schedule with a home game against the Sailors, on Saturday night. Brooklin could climb back into top spot in the Senior "'A" standing, with a double- win over Port Credit. Brampton leads now, by two points and Peterborough is in. second spot, one point ahead of Brooklin. But Excelsiors and Speedy Erns also have two games left, head-on, home-and-home clashes, which they will likely. split, Then goal averages would decide between Brampton and Brooklin. SOFTBALL playoffs are now underway in these parts, with more to start shortly. In the OASA Bantam series, Fernhill Park defeated Storie Park last night, in the first of the series but Sunnyside Park boys hope to even up the round, when they play the second game on their own dia- mond, tomorrow night, at 6.15 o'clock sharp. Players are asked to note that gametime has been advanced ae JAY CEES eliminated the Genosha Aces in two-straight games, taking a 7-5 decision at Alexandra Park last night, in their City and District Juvenile League battle. Jay Cees will now meet People's Clothing in the city championship set and while we have not heard the exact dates, it is expected that the final series will open at Storie Park on Monday evening of next week. OSHAWA TONY'S won a real thriller last night, a 5-4 decision over Toronto Plating that saw Dave Kelly's timely single dtive in the winning run, in the bottom of the 8th inning.
