BA THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, July 28, '1965 - | wre -- "COMMERCE AVNUE" Q ie cd UEEN ST. Poplar Park Picnic Area Is Mecca For Outdoorsmen Swimming has long been a favorite pastime in Port Perry. But, not everyone who comes to the village likes to swim in Lake: Scugog and they don't have to -- thanks to Jim Baird. Four years ago Mr. Baird Opened a new park in the south- west end of town--Poplar Park. Poplar Park was once a pro- @uctive farm in this community noted for its dairy and hatchery products. Later it was a golf course. The 30 acre park is ringed with poplars and "'we're busy adding more trees all the time,"' said Mr. Baird. "We're getting more people out from Oshawa all the time and even Scarboro residents are regular picnickers,"' he said. The main attraction at Poplar Park is its 40 by 100 foot swim- ming pool supplied by a spring- fed pond. It-ranges in depth from 22 inches to nine feet and ts equipped with a one meter diving board. The first 25 feet have been @esigned as a wading pool and there is only a two-inch differ- ence in the water's depth.
