(CP Photo) Eskimo Kids See Pearson By BRENDA LARGE OTTAWA (CP)--Eleven wide- eyed Eskimo teen - agers mak- making their first trip south met Prime Minister Pearson y. They are taking a course in auxiliary teaching at Brock- ville, under the auspices of the department of northern affairs, and dropped in to see Mr. Pear- son during a day of sightsee- ing here. The prime minister, who was in a jovial humor, greeted the young people warmly on the windswept patio of his home at 24 Sussex Drive. While they snapped his pic- ture repeatedly, he chatted with 16-year-old Adamee Ona- lik of Frobisher Bay and Mar- tha Ijactuk of Port Harrison. Later, the Eskimo boys and girls were taken on a tour of the prime minister's house. They admired Eskimo carv- ings on Mr. Pearson's living room mantle and chuckled at his collection of political cartoons in the basement rumpus room. STARE AT RUG They stared at the scatter rug patterned after the Cana- dian flag spread in front of the rumpus room fireplace. Bernard Hart, a teacher for the department of northern af- fairs said the Brockville course is aimed at helping Eskimo ue people gain experience living in the southern part of Canada The course began July 12 and continues to Aug. 6. The Eskimo teen-agers are living in Brockville homes during their stay. Only one or two have been south before. "Some of them are baffled by the traffic and the rapid pace of our life, and the food is a shock to some. But by and 2 they are adjusting very well." Students attending the course range in age from 15 to 20. All are from points in the Eastern Arctic.
