PALMER LONDON (AP)--Sir Winston Churchill's last home, where he died in January, is expected to bring between $240,000 and 000 at auction in October. The eight-bedroom house at 28 Hyde Park Gate has three reception rooms, five bathrooms and a garden. Churchill acquired the house during the Second World War. He bought the adjoining house for his staff. Both are in a quiet dead-end street in fashion- able Kensington, just south of Hyde Park. For the first time, the public can get some idea of what the historic residence was like in- side. Photographs displayed by the real estate firm handling the sale show a splendid house that has been made into a home of style and comfort. The photographs also contain small, intimate reminders of Churchill's occupancy. Two places are still set at the sur- prisingly small dining table. In two corners of the room are the china elephants given to Chur- chill by his friend Aristotle On- assis, the Greek shipping mag- nate. LOOKS QUIET The library looks quiet and restful, with the reading lamp still standing behind Churchill's favorite chair or .. right of the fireplace. The library shelves ou sitter, ide of the tall window are lined with beautifully -bound books. Among them are first editions of the 40 books Churchill wrote during his lifetime. There are vases of flowers on two occa- sional tables, one of them just in front of the window. Lady Churchill's bedroom is quietly elegant. There are fine paintings on the wall. Books overflow from the shelves to the tables. Beside the bed is a reading and writing table that can be ¢wung across the bed. Again there are flowers in @ vase on an occasional table. Over the fireplace is a delic- ately ornate clock and several small ornaments. The house has central heat- ing, but a fire is laid in Lady Churchill's bedroom, The dressing table is uncluttered and jewel boxes are nearby on a three-tier stand. Douglas Out, CBC Intends 'Streamline' TORONTO (CP)--The Cana- dian Broadcasting Coroporation announced today it is not re- newing the contract of veteran sports announcer Steve Douglas and plans to streamline its tele- = sports department in Tor- onto. Douglas' contract expires in) October. He has been with the CBC since 1953 when he came to Toronto from Washington to broadcast football. Len Casey, recently appointed to the new CBC position of act- ing network sports supervisor, said the decision to replace Douglas, 54, is part of a re- building program and that au- ditions for sports jobs are part) of a new policy that will include use of specialist commentators. Golf professional Al Balding will be used on the Canadian Open championship this week and several Toronto Argonaut football players and National Hockey League players have auditioned for other sport jobs.) « K Casey said "there is no purge involved" in policy changes and that Douglas' contract is the only one among major sports| 4 announcers that will not be re- newed, VW Men's casual windbreokers with zipper front, rain resistant in sizes small, ARRRARRARR medium and large in beige color only Qype wY MEN'S </ ASSORTED CAPS and holidoy caps.
