* 12 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursdey, April 22, 1965 SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR "Everything From Soup To Nuts' THE STANLEY CUP finals move into "The Windy City" for the third game of the set, tonight, and fourth game on Sun- day night. Coach Bill Reay hopes to dress winger Kenny Whar- ram, if he's fit enough for tonight's fray but word is that Pierre Pilote is almost a certain casualty for the balance of the season. Defensively, Pilote has left a gap in the Hawks' blue-line division but actually, he has been missed mainly dur- ing penalties. Hawks certainly miss him, when they are short-handed and when the opposition has a penalty, Pilote has always been a key man on the Chicago power-play as a "starter" and at the point position. Blanked at Montreal in the last outing, the question now is whether or not Reay will continue to use both Bobby Hull and his other ace, Stan Mikita, on the same attacking unit. Since this is his home game, coach Reay will have the final choice as to which player he leaves out, against the opponents.on the ice at the time. It is thought he'll use this advantage to get Hull into action while his shadow, Claude Provost, is on the Montreal bench. If the Habs continue to successfully shackle both Hull and Mikita, then the Hawks are in serious trouble. MEMORIAL CUP contenders were trimmed down a little more last night, when Lachine Maroons défeated Smith Falls, in their sudden-death game, to win the Eastern Canada final- ist berth. The round-robin tournament, held in the Maritimes, which included Sydney, produced some close scores but the thinking generally is that the Lachine boys will be no match for Niagara Falls Flyers. The Flyers are within one win of qualifying for the Eastern Canada finals. They defeated Northern Ontario opponents again last night, in the Falls. This one was closer, 6-2, but still never in doubt. They go again tonight and barring a major upset, Flyers and Lachine should be ready to start their series this weekend. Out in Western Canada, their Abbott Cup finals got underway last night in Edmonton, with Oil Kings defeating Winnipeg Braves 3-1. That one should be a close series. ICE CHIPS: -- Portland Buckaroos nosed out Victoria Maple Leafs 3-2 last night and are within one win now of winding up the Western League playoff title... . ST. PAUL Rangers won the Central Professional Hockey League's post- season session, The Adam Cup playoffs, beating out Tulsa 2-1 last night, in the sixth game, for their fourth win... . GERRY EHMAN scored the big overtime goal, to give Roch- ester Americans their 2-1 victory last night, over Hershey Bears, in the first game of the American League's Calder Cup finals. ... CLOSER TO HOME, Woodstock Athletics were de- feated 4-1 at home. This was the second-straight win for the . visiting Sherbrooke Beavers and now they go back to Sher- brooke for the next two games of this Eastern Canada Allan Cup series. .. . EASTER HOLIDAYS is '"'tournament time" for hundreds of minor teams across Canada, and especially here in Ontario, where they've got Pee Wee, Tykes, Bantams, Midgets, Juveniles, Novices and almost every age-limit cate- gory known, in action, at some site or other, including such hotbeds as Goderich, Georgetown, Trenton, Barrie and Bramp- ton. Oshawa Midgets, at Trenton yesterday, took a 7-3 lick- ing from Toronto Marlbores but whipped Hawkesbury 8-2 in their next game, in the 'B" division.
