FIRE DAMAGES WHITBY HOME Damage estimated at $2,000 was caused to the home of Mr. and Mrs, Er- nest Young, 221 Trent street, Wednesday morning, by a8 fire which is believed to have started at the base of the chimney. Mrs. Young, who was in the kitchen with her four small children, smelled smoke and, finding a fire in the living room, fled the home with her chil- dren. This fact was made known Wednesday through a press release from G. T. Rich- ards, chairman of the Whitby Industrial Commission. Having served the community for close on five years, Latry Cond submitted his resignation, it was announced, which was accepted by the commission. Acceptance of the resignation was acknowledged on behalf of the town council by clerk-treas- urer John Frost. The resignation was turned ever to the council Tuesday evening during a special meet- ing. The clerk-treasurer con- firmed the council's acceptance} Wednesday afternoon. Commenting on the resigna- tion, Mr. Richards stated the town would miss the commis- sioner who has done an excel- he will remain with us as @ citizen,' Mr. Richards said.
