i | 6 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Mondey, February 8, 1965 SLUMP CONTINUES Junior Hawks Triumph Over Riddled Generals By GERRY SUTTON ST CATHARINES -- Oshawa Generals are fortunate they dcn't have to play all their games in opposition rinks. Sunday afternoon the Gen- erals lost their 17th game away from home when St Catharines Black Hawks took a 6-1 victory |, here at the Garden City Gar- j dens. The defeat extended erals' losing string to five games and left them holding on fourth-place by a scant two points over Montreal Junior Canadiens. Oshawa is also only seven points ahead of St Cath- arines and Kitchener, who are tied for the sixth and last play- off spot. Generals have a so-called 'must' game Tuesday night against Hamilton Red Wings at the Civic Auditorium A Hamil- ton win would put things at the drastic stage for Generals as they will have only nine games left in the OHA Junior 'A' schedule. Yesterday, Hawks dominated play for the first 40 minutes and if not for the work of goal- tender Dennis Gibson the score might have reached double figures, instead of 6-0. Gibson, who was left entirely on his own for most of the game, made 44 saves, including point-blank shots from Brian McDonald, Mickey Cherevaty and Ross Eichler The 20-year- old .Gibson frustrated Ken Hodge several times with saves that had the league's top scorer shaking his head in amazement. MCDONALD PAVES WAY Black Hawks received strong efforts from several players but McDonald was the star of the contest with one goal and two assists He gave Hawks a com- manding 4-0 lead early in the second period with a sharp backhander that caught the far corner of the net.
