Wednesday, December 30, 1964 Construction Value Up OTTAWA (CP)--Value of all construction in Canada, in 1965 could be "Well over" $9,000,000,- 000 for the first time, Donald H. Jupp of Toronto, president 6f the Canadian Construction Association, said today. This would compare with an estimated $8,600,000,000 pro- gram in 1964. That was a 12- per-cent gain from 1963, with more than half the increasé in terms of volume rather than prices. Mr. Jupp indicated that the forecast 1965 construction activ- ity will be well within the in- dustry's capacity, After the vol- ume of construction had lev- elled off after 1958, that cap- acity continued to grow and it ow was estimated 'that for some time the industry could handle a $10,000,000,000 pro- gram without serious strain." Father Of 6 Freed On Fraud Charge HAMILTON (CP)--A Hamil- ton man charged with fraud after begging for money to feed his children, walked out of city magistrate's court Tuesday, a free man. Robert Tanner, $2, of Cheéver Street, has six children and was about $3,000 in debt when he went looking for monéy. Det. James Galloway said Tanner received $8 from Df. Thomas Davies, minister of Westdale United Church. After giving the money the minister realized the stores were closed and that Tannér would be un- able to buy food that night. So Dr. Davies took food from hig pantry and wént to the ad- dress Tanner had given as his. The address was phoney. Two weeks later, Tanner went to St. Andréew's Church on Up- if Paradisé Road, and told ev. G. E. Elifott the same étory. Mr. Elliot gavé Tanner $10, and discovered the address was false when he went to visit Tanner the next day. Det Galloway said the money which Tanner begged was in- deed t6 buy food for his chil- dret. In addition, said the of- ficer, Taliner has apologized to both ministers, and has seen a lawyer about his debts.
