Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' OSHAWA 'BAD BOYS' turned in one of their best efforts of the season, a one-error defensive stand behind Ted Jones' brilliant 12-strikeout pitching, to earn a 4-1 decision over Brooklin Concretes, in Brooklin last night. The win cleaned up the Oshawa City and District League's semi-final series in two-straight and sends the season's league-leaders, Bad Boys, into the finals, against Scugog Cleaners, the Juniors having ousted A, and W. Drive-In in the other semi-final bracket. Bob Campbell struck out 16 of the Bad Boys last night as he and his mates made a gallant bid to force a third game, Each pitcher allowed five hits but Jones kept the Concretes' safeties to just one-per-inning, right up until the 8th. Now Brooklin will await their second game of the series with Tweed, in OASA Intermediate "'C" play, which will be played in Brooklin on Saturday night. Concretes dropped the first game, in Madoc, 2-0. Meanwhile, Bad Boys. will open their City Championship finals, against Scugog Cleaners, here at Alexandra Park, tomorrow night; at-eight o'clock. This is to be a 3-out-of-5 series and will continue on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. SOFTBALL PLAYOFF action on tap finds the Civil Serv- ice League cleaning up their last semi-final series tonight, at Alexandra Park, under the floodlights, when Scott's Chick- en Villa meets Thompson's Plumbing in the third and decid- ing game of their set -- the winner to advance to the cham- plonship finals, against Wood's Transport, starting on Mon- day night, OASA action, a third game in Junior "C" play- offs, here at Alexandra Park last night, saw Beamsville boys batter out. five mammoth home-run blows to fully deserve their 8-2 triumph over Hastings. There's been no word yet concerning that expected Bantam game, here tomorrow. Osh- awa Minor teams go at it again tonight, Sunnyside Bantams at Storie Park, second game of their title round and two games in the Midget round-robin playoffs. Oshawa Tony's go to Richmond Hill tomorrow night and play back here on Saturday night. UAW League finals are scheduled for this weekend, at Alexandra Park. LACROSSE FEVER! It's a sports disease, symptoms almost identical with that of such other fevers as "World's Series", "Grey Cup", "Memorial Cup", "Stanley Cup', ete. ----but at any rate, it's struck this area of the country with a whomp! Here in Oshawa, the No. 1 conversational topic is, of course, the Green Gaels and their splendid start in the Minto Cup finals, with that brilliant win on Monday night. But if you wander out to Brooklin or over to Whitby -- and even up in Peterborough -- you'll hardly ever hear the Green Gaels mentioned -- but they're talking lacrosse. Their topic is the Brooklin seniors and the Mann Cup finals, currently being waged in Whitby, second game tonight and third out in the Liftlock City Arena on Friday, then back to Whitby on Saturday night. The rates for baby-sitting have been doubled in Brooklin this week and word is out that if the ae don't co-operate, they may not get milked until mid- night. GOOD PITCHING Last night's playoff batile in Brooklin was featured by the brilliant pitching of the two rivals with Ted Jones striking out an even dozen batters, al- lowing only one walk and giving up five hits, Bob Campbell, for the Concretes, struck out 16 batters, issued three "free tickets" and was also tagged for just five hits. Bad Boys loaded the bases in the first inning on a couple of walks and Campbell's own error but they failed to score. They finally broke the ice in the third frame when Bill Berwick open- ed with a double. He was safe on a choice play that missed, scoring on an error and Cheese- man, the other base-runner, came home on a sacrifice fly by Mackness, to make it 2-0.
