WHITBY And DISTRICT Manager: John Gault Whitby Bureau Office 111 Dundas St. West Sad Finish For A Tel. 668-3703 READY FOR THE WRECKERS Proud Ship The welder's spell the end of a vine tat trail "or a gallant old warship that is gently bumping the Whitby Harbor. The ship, an old Wellington Class Corvette, will find its way, piece by piece, into the giant melting pot at the Lake Ontario Steel Mill. She began her life at sea in 1944 when she was commission- ed into the Royal Navy as the HMS Wellington Kent at a ship- yard in Troon, Scotland. She served in the British Navy till 1947 when she was sold to a shipping company in Halifax. Her steam boilers were haul- ed out and replaced with marine diesel engines. She was renamed the Belle Isle II, and stripped of her armor, she began the unglamor- ous task of hauling freight on the world's oceans, Several yearns ago she caught fire in Montreal harbor and after the blaze was extinguished she was towed to Kingston where she laid accumulating rust, She was purchased by the Steel Company and will fall, piece by piece, to the cutting torch. Thus a gallant ship which served her country in time of war 2nd peace will go to the melting pot and with her will go all the whispered memories of Henry High Students Take Top Honors Congratulations are in order|En; for the Grade 13 students of Henry Street High School for the excellent results produced on this year's Departmental Examinations.
