ANSWER: Fine hairline cracks can be filled by brush- ing with a mixture of three parts boiled linseed oil and one part turpentine. For somewhat wider cracks, use white lead thinned with fairly thin paste; then rub with a cloth to force the paste into the cracks; wipe any excess from the surface. Light sand- papering may be necessary when the paste is dry." SQUEAKING CHAIRS QUESTION: We have a num- ber of chairs which squeak when people sit down on them. This is very annoying. What can we do to overcome this? ANSWER: Squeaking is usual- ly due to loosened joints, caus- ing wood pieces to rub against each other at those points. Non-|dow frame.
