The Port Perry Yacht Club shows that membership of the club is no longer the prerequisite of only the wealthy. Founded in 1938, Port Perry Yacht Club conducts its opera- tions so that a membership is well within the means of the average working man. Although most members own boats, the ctub does not require its mem- bership te be boat owners. The club operates at capacity with 50 member families and since its foundation has always encouraged family membership. For a rather small club, PPYC boasts memberships from all parts of Ontario. When the club first started, most of the boats were sail- boats. These have been gradu- ally giving way to outboards and these are now largely being replaced by family cruisers. However, this year, more sail- boats may be seen moored at ing quite popular around the yacht club mooring area is the outbeard powered family house- boat. These not only do the fam- ily for a cruise, but they are used for just what they are called -- houseboats. Many fam- ilies spend their summer months abord ship in the PPYC area. Activities around Port Perry Yacht Club include social even- ings and dances in the club- house which was built adjacent to the club docks in 1947. Holi- day cruises through the Trent Waterways system account for a great deal of membership pleasure. Member work days account largely for the inexpensive op- eration of the club. Ground and building maintenance and the putting out of docks in the springtime, and taking them back in late fall is cheerfully done usually by a 100 per cent turnout of club members.
