Jr. Legionnaires: Win Two Games Oshawa Junior Legionnaires made a big step up in the Leaside Baseball Association's Juni-r League, over this past week-end, when they defeated Richardson's Sports 5-0 on Fri- day night, right in Talbot Park and then won a 7-5 decision over, Doug Laurie's Sports, on Saturday afternoon, here at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium. Roger Reeson pitched the win on Friday night, a neat four- hitter that made the vaunted Richardson's team look ordi- nary. Reeson didn't give up more than one hit in any one inning and as a result, was rarely in trouble. Two infield errors to start the first inning, put Reeson on the spot but a double-play got him off the hook thére and in the sixth, he had the bases loaded, with two out, and fanned the next batter to save that situation. : Oshawa won the game with a run in the second inning, when Dave Ferries was safe on an error and scored on Reeson's big triple. In the fifth, Legionnaires rallying after a bad start, to the|cut Laurie's off at five runs, for a 7-5 verdict. The visitors scored three runs in the first inning on three hit: and an error, all of the hit: being doubles, as Leonard Aus- tin and Adams all connected. However, Laurie's found run: hard to get, after the first in ning. They got one in the sixth on hits by Pau! Austin and Jim Ada'ns and they added their other run in the seventh, after two out, when Bill Leonard singled and Tom Etsell was safe on an infield error. Oshawa Legionnaires had to bunch three hits, by Dave Fer- ries, Ted Lutton and Reeson, in the first inning to get. their first run, But in the second stanza, they clicked for three runs, as Gerry Nekkers, Gary Newitt, Ferrires and Lutton all connected with Réeson's double cleaning up the rally. Mike Joel scored in the fifth with his double, followed by Paul Cleutier's two bagger. In the 8th, with the score tied at 5-5, Legionnaires won the game when Gary Newitt tripled with scored four more runs on three hits, one walk and an error,| with Reeson, Gary Newitt and) Al Etchells supplying the power! -Dave Ferries ,with three hits | Oshawa at the plate.
