He was in his 64th year. Born Nov. 30, 1900, at Dar- lington, County Durham, Eng- land, the deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hammond. He wes married in Darlington, England, June 9, 1923, A resident of Canada and Oshawa for 16 years, Mr. Ham- mond devoted a great part of his business life to aviation parts manufacturing. He was a member 'of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Branch 43, Royal Canadian Le- gion and the Old Country Club. A veteran of both world wars, he served with the Royal Air Force Communication sec- tion. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, the former Amanda Dougherty; two daughters, Mrs. George Pilot (Margaret) of Kitchener and Mrs. William Rudyk (Yvonne) of Oshawa; a brother, Christopher of London, England and five grand- children. The memorial service will be held at the Armstrong Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Friday, June 2%. Rev. D. A. P. Allen will conduct the service. Interment will be in Oshawa Union Ceme- tery. WILLIAM GEORGE JOHNS In failing health for some years William George Johns, of 837 Park road south, died Tues- day, June 23, at the Sunny Brag Nursing: Home, Whitby Town- ship. He was in his 89th year. A son of the late John and Alice Johns, the deceased was born at Harmony and had been a life long resident of the area. He was an adherent of the Unit- ed: Church. Mr. Johns farmed for many years in the area where the south plant of General Motors is now located. . He is survived by two sisters. Mrs. E. Fletcher of Oshawa and Miss Gussie Johns of Bowman- ville. The funeral service will be held at the McIntosh-Anderson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thurs- day, June 25. Interment will be in Oshawa Union Cemetery. Rev. J. E. Fellows of King Street United Church will con- duct the service. MRS, SARAH JANE HILL Seriously sick for three weeks, Mrs. Sarah Jane Hill, 185 Mary street, died Tuesday, June 23, at the Oshawa General Hospital. She was in her 85th year. Born at Kemptville, Ont., Aug. 26, 1879, the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pascal Courrier, She was married at Kemptville Aug. 19, 1903 and came to Oshawa from Smiths Falls 48 years ago. Mrs. Hill was a member of The Church of St. Gregory the Great. Predeceased by her husband, James Hill, Aug. 14, 1954, Mrs. Hill is survived by three daugh- ters, Miss Lou Hill, Mrs. W. Mapplebeck (Dorothy) and Mrs. C. Parrish (Margaret) and four sons, Robert, Sidney, Charles and Frank, all of Oshawa. Also surviving are a sister, of Smiths Falls; 15 grandchil- dren and 21 great-grandchildren. High requiem mass will be sung in St. Gregory's Church at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26. Inter- ment will be in St. Gregory's Cemetery. Rt. Rev. Monsignor Paul Dwyer will conduct the) mass. | Prayers will be recited at the} Armstrong Funeral Home at 7.30 p.m. Thursday. HUGH ANDREWS In failing health for two months, Hugh Andrews of 67 Patricia avenue died at the Osh- awa General Hospital this morning. He was in his 76th year. : Born and educated at Arn- prior, Mr. Andrews had been a resident of Oshawa for 45 years. He was employed for 27 years by General Motors and for the past 16 years had operated his own heating and tinsmithing business. He was @ member of St. Andrew's United Church, he was Corinthian Lodge, No. 61, Inde- also a member - of pendent Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife, the former Mary Fore- man of Collingwood; a daugh- ter, Eileen and two sons, Earnest and Russell (Ruddy), all of Oshawa. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. R. Morris (Emma) of Osh- awa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the MelIntosh-Anderson Fu- neral Home. Interment will be in Mount Lawn Cemetery. Rev. . G. Morris, minister of St. 'Andrew's United Church, will conduct the service.
