TWO LEAGUES Decide '64 Simcoe Hall Floor Hockey Champions The Simcoe Hall Boys' Club (Simcoe Street) concluded its 1964 season of Floor Hockey with championship teams being declared in both the Forest and Jungle Leagues, on Saturday. This was a year of exciting action with an abundance of players and the same of team spirit and play. Over eighty youngsters have enjoyed the somewhat rough - and - tumble sport, with the straight sticks and the circular puck. The Offi- cial League play started about the middle of April. FOREST LEAGUE In the Forest League, after a three-game, round-robin series of play, Oaks emerged the vic- tors of the league by defeating the Maples 5-to-3; the Willows to the tune of 8-6. and the Pop- lars, by a score of 19-6. Following the league action Saturday, Championship crests were presented to the winners by Frank Walsh, Supervisor of Poys' activities at Simcoe Hall (Simcoe Street). Lakeview (East) and Ontario In the final series, Tigers, with a total score of 27-to-18, became the 1964 Jungle League Floor Hockey Champions. Crests were presented to the members of the winning team by Wes Ogden, Assistant at Simcoe Hall. Members of the winning teams were: Forest League -- Serge Dupont, John Boivin, Ron Boivin, Dennis Smysnuik and John Orlecki. In the Jungle League, the team members were: Wayne Donnelly, Rob Morey, Gary Losier, Stephen Gresh and Ed. Samkovas. ° Thanks is extended to Mike Karas and Ralph Branton, along with Roy Duncan, who assisted with the league. Ajax Srs. Turn Back Merchants Ajax defeated Oshawa Mer- chants 12-10 last night at Little Britain, in an Eastern Ontario Senior Baseball League sched- ule fixture that was anything but senior in calibre. The winners outhit Oshawa 12 to 10, had six errors to Osh- awa's four and both teams used two pitchers, none of whom could be rated in the brilliant class. It took them almost two hours to play the first five in- nings as both starting pitchers, Jim Pipher for Oshawa and Murray Godfrey for Ajax, had trouble finding the plate and usually had to pitch at least four times to each batter, often even more. Ajax opened with three runs fn the first inning and added two in the second. They got another pair in the fourth and scored. their highest rally, good for four runs, in th fifth, all after there were two out. They added one more in the ninth inning: Bob Tripp, with two hits and three walks, was Ajax's opening threat but Eric Peter- son, with five. hits in six trips, was their big hitting star. Reg Daze had -two hits and so did Léo Kursko, Oshawa got two runs in the first, took the lead with a five- Tun. splurge in the third and added two in the fourth. . But when Paul Clouthier took over from Godfrey the Merchants bogged right down and the best they could do was one run in the sixth inning. Lucky Wills had two hits, so did John Hogg but Bob Reid Plaza-Dixie Earn Shutout Victory In a UAW Softball League game yesterday at Alexandra Park, Plaza-Dixie blanked Dyett's Sports 7-0, as-Redshaw, pitching for "Dixie" gave up} inning. Redshaw fanned only six batters and only faced 18 bat- ters in the first six. frames. Cockerton doubled in the 7th with one out. Delves followed with a clean hit and Cockerton was thrown out at the plate, trying to score, and that was the only chance Dyett's had. Beer, pitching for the losers, got his lumps early as Plaza- Dixie scored four runs on a walk, three errors and Morgan's triple, plus a passed ball, in the first inning. They added single- tons in the second, third and fifth frames with Parker, Kor- eyzynski and Morgan again sup- plying the scoring punch. had three and so did Jackie Cole, the latter having a per- fect night at the plate, three hits and t walks. Failure to hit with runners on bases and some costly errors at crucial spots, proved Osh- awa's downfall while Clou- thier's fine relief pitching was the key-f, r in the Ajax vic- tory.
