"Adults who are worried by a loss of hearing should have a check-up as soon as convenient, says L. H. Parker, managing di- rector of the Society. Research has made possible new medical techniques which can be effective in certain types of serious hearing loss. In those cases where an oper- ation is not indicated, a modern hearing aid is often the answer. Developments in design and the new ultra-small batteries have made them less conspiduous and more efficient. "Adults and children with in- rt vision have no hesita- tion in wearing glasses", adds Mr. Parker. '"'Why should any- one with a hearing loss not want a hearing aid? In fact, almost 150,000 Canadians now wear them and lead useful, happy lives." Each year, there is increased interest in providing special edu- cational training for children handicapped by a hearing loss. Parents of these children can get the latest information from their local school board.
