THE OSHAWA TIMSS, Wednesdey, April 8, 1964 7 Bobby Kennedy To Speak In Toronto WASHINGTON (CP)--Attor- ney-General Robert F. Kennedy says that if destiny brings him to the teaching profession, he hopes he may be able to lec- ture at Canadian universities 4s well as those in the United States. The 38-year-old brother of the late president John F. Kennedy adds that he still hasn't made up his mind what he will do when he leaves his present ap- pointment next November. There is speculation that he is seeking the vice- , but he made no mention of this. His main thoughts were about his broth- er's relations. with Canadians' about his own future, possibly in some teaching capacity. "I would like to teach gov- ernment affairs to undergradu-| ates--if that is where destiny brings me--and if that should| © come to pass, I would be glad to appear at Canadian univer- sities as well as those in this country." It was another crowded day ro the youthful, vigorous attor- before he could find 'ime for the brief interview Tuesday night. Civil rights dele- tions from Hawaii and Flor- were waiting in the recep- tion room; Kennedy's own staff officers were pressing for pri- vate conferences; tele- phones were ringing; office in- tercommunication sets were HAS MANY REQUESTS Kennedy was much in de- mand. Edwin Guthman, his chief press officer, estimated the attorney-general now gets up to 100 requests a week to make speeches and public ap- pearances. Most of these are turned away. Kennedy just hasn't the time. Nevertheless, the attorney- general will take time next week for a rare flight to Can- ada where he will speak April 14 at The Canadian Press an- nual dinner in Toronto. This trip, he indicated, will be his personal expression of grati- tude to the Canadian people for the deep sympathy they dis- played when his brother was assassinated last November. 'T'm paying this call not only because of the close relations between our two governments, but because of the close rela- tions between president Ken- nedy . . . and the people of Canada--that's why I want to) g0. "You will remember that Ca- nadian universities be- stowed honors on him; that he had made a number of visits there and that he felt very close to Canada. It was in my sum- mer home at. Hyannis Port where my brother met with' your prime minister, Mr. Pear- son, in May last year." This will be the attorney-gen- eral's first major speech in Canada. Though he first met his wife, Ethel, on a Christ skiing jaunt at Mont Trem- biant, Que.; in 1044, he never had found time to make an ex- tended tour of Canada. FATHER OF EIGHT Now the father of eight chil- dren--five boys and three girls --his. time is taken up with family duties and official re- ponsibilities which includ port of cvil rights and the bat- tle against crime, combines and trusts. Kennedy is a magnet for chil. dren and teen-agers. Whenever he can, he invites many of them into his office for brief talks on government and politics. "T like children and they like me," he said. "Probably, it is because I depict youth in gov- ernment and have many chil- dren of my own." But he believes youth needs direction. Youth has "'to be given more direction, not only in this coun- try but in others. There can be a great potential utilization of its imagination and energy, but frequently this devotion and energy are not fully utilized ex- cept during times of war. "Present-<lay youth needs as- sistance to make proper use of its ability--and I think the peace corps is an example of what can be done. "Youth wants to accomplish and that is why I believe there was such strong feeling for my brother in many parts of the world. Not only for people in this country but those in oth- ers, he epitomized the ideals, the things people wanted to see accomplished. "He symbolized idealism. He was in many ways the presi- dent of many countries--all at the same time, It is the spirit of his idealism that I treasure; that I want to see remem- bered."' SENTENCE SUSPENDED FREIBURG (Reuters)--A 60- year-old West German house- wife was given a nine-month suspended prison sentence Mon- day for having killed her 26- year-old mentally-ill daughter with sleeping pills three years ago, The woman told the court she decided to kill her daughter and herself because she feared she would die soon of cancer and did not want to put her daughter into a nursing home. The woman also took sleeping tablets but woke up again three days later. VITALIS STEAKS ROASTS WING STEA¥ OR ROAST ~ BONELESS ROUND STEAK OR ROAST BONELESS RUMP ROAST You Can See it...
