Combine egg yolks, the % cup sugar, lemon rind and juice in a large bowl, Place over simmering water and beat with a rotary beater until mix- ture is thick and creamy, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat! and beat in melted gelatin. Cool until mixture is just beginning to thicken and become creamy. Make a meringue of the egg whites, salt and xemaining (4 cup sugar. Fold into the gelatin mixture, then fold in the stiffly beaten cream. Pour mixture into a 5 to 6 cup serving dish and chill until set, Just be- fore serving decorate with chopped toasted almonds, pieces of maraschino cherry and whipped cream. 6 to 8 servings.
