"But.a group I played with four years ago had the same sound."' This highly prejudiced opinion comes from Ronnie Dove, the leader of a three-month old | quartet of Oshawa lads called the Ron-Als. The group has just released their first '45'? record which they and manager Bob Stone -- an oh-so-young (22) entrepren- eur from Oshawa -- hope will swing them into the big time. The platter "comes on" with two originals: 'Beach Rat' (Dove - Neuman) and "I'm Happy"' (Dove), and personnel responsible are: Ronnie Dove, 21, of 340 Mar- land avenue, leader - guitarist- vocalist. Al Neuman, 21, of 23 Elgin stneet east, co-composer with Dove of "Beach Rat', plays bass and vocallizes. John Mitriuk, 19, 41 Burk street, plays piano and organ. ist; Al Neuman, bass and yo- calist and Steve Hewak, drummer. --Oshawa Times Photo Steve Hewak, 19, of 291 Ade- laide avenue east, on drums. Ronnie and Al are fulltime pro's while John works for a department store and Steve is employed at GM. Manager Stone, of 37 Colborne street east, owns the Stone re cording company on which the group can soon be heard. He has high hopes for the four- some, 'What the boys are trying to do,' he explains, "is to main- tain flexibility by playing all kinds of music (within that frame of neference): rhythm with blues and jazz feeling, and so on. 'Most artists work toward an image and once there they St. B's To Hold The: St. Bernadette's Bantam Basketball team accompanied by the girls senior team made a weekend trip to Kingston. The boys played a two game series winning both, The host school, Cathedral High - played the first game against the St. Bernadette's squad, a closely contested game which was won by the Ajaxites 29-26. The second game provided a surprise to many with St. Ber- nadette's Bantams taking a comfortable win over the Re- gion Appolis Boy's Collegiate, 42-20. The girl's.-team proved a run away for Cathedral High School, 38-6. . A banquet was served by Ca- thedral High for the St. Berna- dette's girls and boys teams. The Ajax students were billeted overnight in the homes of Cathe- dral High students. This closes the 1964 basket- 'ball season for St. Bernadette's with appreciation to the Cathe- dral High School ini Kingston and all those connected with the team in Ajax. Now all the students at St. Bernadette's are in preparation for spring and summer events. The big one coming up will be the second South Ontario Separate School Track and Field Meet in June at St. Bernadette's. All separate schools in the area are invited to participate. don't change. Ronnie says the group's live act is changed every three months and "you'd be surpris- ed to see how distinct regional preferences can be." Once rapport is established the boys are off and running. Stone will be "hammering" the Ron-Als first record upon its release seven weeks hence and another disc in the "surf- ing' (a twist from California) idiom will be available May 1. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
