This Summer Save Rose Peals For Potpourri -- When you're in the garden this summer collecting some perfect roses for a bright ar- rangement, reserve blooms from some of your fragrant varieties to make the everpop- ular potpourri. A potpourri is nothing more than a mixture of spiced rose petals in a jar, yet it preserves the fragrance of roses for many years. Just lifting the lid can fill a room with the sweetest smell of summer, even in coldest win- ter. % aay. Inere are special rose jars for the purpose, but any attrac- tive bowl or globe with tight- fitting lid will do as weili. Start by collecting only your most fragrant blooms. Flowers from varieties like Granda and Saratoga, are perfect and well worth cutting for the purpose. Both of them have the true "old- fashioned" rose perfume. You can cut the blooms in any stage, right up to the fully-open- ed flower, provided they are still rich in color. Remove the petals from the cut roses propmptly and spread them out thinly on a screen or a rack of cheesecloth. Allow them to dry in a warm, airy place, stirring and turning them daily. Once they are completely dry Making a potpourri is_ still as easy as it was in grandma's and become chip-like, they are ready to be packed in the jar in SUED CANDY FEATURE!
