OSHAWA HAWKEY'S CLOSE OUT SEASON Members of the Oshawa Hawkeyes Junior Football Club were guests of honor at a banquet Saturday night, when the officers and direc- tors played host to the players. Guest speaker was Frank Tyn- dall, coach of the Queen's Golden Gaels, 1963 Intercol- pee football cha A highlight of the evening was the presentation of individual trophies, winners of which are shown above, left-to-right (seated) -- Ed. Aru, "'best all- round player"; Brian Hall, "best offensive player"; "Hank" Maynard, "'best de- fensive player" and Iho Nako, "most improved player in 1963 season". Standing, _ left-to- right, are Dunc Brodie, assis- tant coach; Murray Maidlow, club president, and Don Hart, coach, Coach Hart, who has tendered his resignation, was the recipient of a special gift, presented by the players. --Oshawa Times Photo. Acadian Cleaners Edge Ace Bowlers Acadian Cleaners club won a three-to-two decision over Ace Bowl on Saturday, in five - pin action at Oshawa Motor City ; Lanes. ' The victory moved the Osh- awa crew into a two-point lead for second spot in the standing, in the Toronto City Major league, but it failed to close the gap between Acadians and first-place Stan Jarvis, as the Jarvis club picked up four points against Knob Hill. | Both Ace Bowl and Acadian Cleaners clubs were evidently trying too hard and the team scores were away below par. The first game went to Acadi- ans, 1187 to 1148, Ace took the second, 1203 to 1007, Acadians the third, 1194 to 1173, the fourth also went to Acadians, 1242 to 1140 and the final game was won by Ace, 1191 to 1173. Five game totals were Ace 5855, Acadians 5803. Dutch Lugtenburg was the number one Acadian with 305, 219, 214, 279 and 273 for 1290; Ozzie Keeler 25, 237, 202, 303 and 238 for 1235;\ Ron Jay 977 for 44 frames; Jim Cassells 900 for 40; Bob Gallagher 804 for 36; Reg Hickey 339 for 16; Dick Adams 206 for 10. Cassells, Lugtenburg and Keeler, were big guns for Aca- dians in the clutches and us- ually came up with the strikes when needed. Jay, could have had much more but for a crop of head pins but he certainly battled gamely for the total he did get. Galagher also was too deadly on the centre pin with the re- sult, he had one of his worst days of the season. McGuinnes 25; Manu- facturers Life 25; Albion Bowl 22; Aurora Bowl 20. One of the better drawing cards in Junior "A" hockey in Canada are the Montreal Cana- diens and that's just who will awa Generals, tomorrow eve- ning, before an _ anticipated packed house at Bowmanville arena. The natural reaction to Gen- erals coming back after an 11- year absence from the Provin- cial Junior "A"' circuit was that it would take them three or four years to get adjusted while building a club, in other words a last-place team for a ; |couple or three years. But they are presently vieing for fifth spot in the OHA league stand- ing, currently in the possession of their Boston Bruins' spon- Falls Flyers. Oshawa moves into Peterbor- ough tonight in search of their first victory not only in the Lift- lock city, but over the Petes themselves, Generals have a tie to show for their efforts in two meetings against Peter- borough, Montreal and Generals have squared off three times this season, Oshawa's record is, no wins, two losses (close ones) and one tie against the Junior Habs. The most recent set-to with Oshawa and Montreal, played ton, resulted in a 4-2 win for Canadiens by virute of two third - period goals. It is evident from the over-all assessment of Montreal-Oshawa clashes, that despite the apparent talent pos- sessed by Montreal, Generals with a solid two-way effort to- morrow night, could defeat the colorful, and sometimes, haughty Habs. Montreal thus far have been paced by prolific goal-scorer, Yvan Cournoyer, staging a dual with St. Catharines' nifty With only three weeks re- maining in the first series of the schedule, the Acadian Cleaner club is still very much in the running for first place. Saturday's action will be at Willow Bowl with Aurora Bowl being the Acadian opposition. Remaining series will be with| L. J. McGuinness and the Stan Jarvis club, the following weeks. 30 Montreal Jr. Habs Oppose Generals On Tuesday Night: provide the opposition for Osh- § before a sellout crowd in Tren-| OLD COUNTRY SOCCER THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, November 25, 1963 ore LONDON (Reuters) -- Re- 'sults of soccer league played in 'Britain Saturday: ENGLISH LEAGUE Division I icester Man United 0 Liverpool 1 Sheltie. 5 Wetveemameson 9 West Brom 1 Blackburn 3 Newcastie 3 Man City 1 Plymouth 1 Norwich 2 Preston 2 Rotherham 2 , Southampton 3 Nrthampton 1 ANDRE BOUDRIAS playmaker, Fred Stanfield, for the league's scoring leadership. Recent reports out of the pub- licity department, credit veter- an left-winger Andre Boudrias with oMntreal's esuccess in the last six games. Boudrias has compiled 16 points during that stretch, including an average of one goal a game. Boudrias, in his third anal' final season with Montreal Jr. Canadiens, had an inconsistent offensive record last season, as then coach, Claude Ruel util- ized his versatility at defence for the majority of the year. The preceding season, Bou- drias, 5' 8", 165 pounds, led the OHA Junior "'A" scoring race with 97 points. Although Boudrias had been the most productive Canadian in the past six games, they still like to look to Cournoyer as their leader because of his goal- scoring potential.
