OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesday, November 19,1963 7 STAFF OF NEW SIMCOE HALL BOYS' CLUB HAROLD McNEILL GRAHAM "TIM" NELSON GEORGE MUDD McNeill Is Pioneer Worker Simcoe Hall Development Although the working hours at Simcoe Hall are. not to be envied, the hard-working staff and volunteer workers show no signs of flagging. With two clubs now requiring supervision, there will probably be still more to fit into the time. The staff members, who will be divided between the two clubs, are Mr. and Mrs. Har- old McNeill, Miss Sally Parker, Mrs. Doris Nash, Mrs. Edith Taylor, Mrs. W. (Doris) Cole, Graham Nelson, Wes. Ogden, Walter Cole, Bernard Muzeen and George Mudd. Mr. McNeill is the executive director of Simcoe Hall. He joined the staff of the Settle- ment House in 1947, at that time only man there.. Previous to this, he was a teacher with the Canadian Indian Home Mission run by the Presbyterian Church. In his first year at Simcoe Hall, Mr. McNeill saw the need for a building to house a gymnasium, theatre, games - room, finally completed in 1951,. Since 1951, Mr. McNeill has also. been Probation Officer for the City of Oshawa Juvenile and Fam- ily courts. Mrs. McNeill came with her husband to Simcoe Hall, work- ing voluntarily until 1954 when she began working part-time. Although officially, she is still working as secretary-treasurer, part-time, her hours are the same as those of the other mem- bers of the staff. NURSERY SCHOOL Miss Parker joined the staff in 1954. She is director of all the girls' activities conducted in Simcoe Hall and also of the Nursery school. When Mrs. Nash joined the Staff in 1956, she originally assisted with the girls' activi- ties and the Nursery school. Later she moved on to the ad- ministrative side, where she is now secretary. The supervisor of the junior girls' activities, Mrs. Taylor, also assists ,in the Nursery school. She came to Simcoe Hall in 1959. One of the very important wel- fare services centred at Simcoe Hall is used clothing. In charge of the used clothing building is Mrs. Cole, who sorts out the incoming garmenis and decides where they should go next. The building was provided by the City of Oshawa and the Wom- en's Welfare League, and orig- inally the city stored furniture in one section, There is no longer any room for this, and Mrs. Cole comes in every day to do what used te be a one-day-a- week job. Mrs. Cole joined the staff in 1962, Boys' supervisor at the Settle- ment House, Mr. Nelson, will be Unit Director, in charge of in- ternal operation, at the East- view club. He came to Simcoe Hall in 1954. BERNARD MUZEEN WALTER COLE Mr, Ogden will replace Mr. Nelson as supervisor of boys' activities at Simcoe Hall. He came in September of this year. Another member of the staff who came to Simcoe Hall this year is Mr. Cole. His main concern will be the supervision of craft. Mr. Cole has been a WESLEY 0GDEN volunteer worker at the Settle. ment House for ten years. Mr. Muzeen, who has been @ volunteer worker .at Simcoe Hall for four years, becoming a staff member earlier this year, supervises gym activities. Mr. Muzeen has been an assist- ant Scout Master in Oshawa for five years. Mr. Mudd will be manager. of the Olympic-sized pool at the new club. He will be responsi- ble for the operation of the pool, safety measures, shower- heat control and everything con nected with running a swime ming pool. Previously he was Poo] Manager in Leaside Memo- rial Community Gardens, To-' ronto, and he'ore that, also did some pooi-managing in Eng- land. CLUBS ARE WIDESPREAD The Boys' Club of Canada is affiliated with the Boys' Clubs of America and the Boys' Clubs of the United Kingdom. The Canadian National Office is in Montreal. There are 87 boys' clubs in Canada, from Varn couver on the west -- Yellomw- knife, N.W.T. in the north -- Wabana, Newfoundland in the east to Niagara Falls, Ontario, on the south.
