McLaughlin were thrown wide on Saturday afternoon when the genial host and mem- bers of his family welcomed a succession of some seven hun- dred guests With his remarkable memory for names and faces undimin- ished and an effervescent Irish wit, the host stood for hours Shaking hands and 'embracing his old-time friends and ob- viously enjoying the as much as everyone else. At his side were Miss Isabel McLaughlin, Mrs. Mildred Tur- ner of Coral Gables, Florida; Mr. and Mrs. John B. Pangman of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Mrs. C. Churchi!] Mann. Miss McLaughlin was wearing primrose delustered silk satin, the bodice delicately embroi- dered in pastel silk motifs, twinkling with opalescent pail- lettes and the skirt falling in soft folds. Mrs. Pangman's dress was clas- sically simple, navy blue chif- fon, gracefully draped with a floating back. panel and Mrs. Mann's tabac brown peau de sole sheath was richly beaded in bronze over which she wore a matching stole-wrap with fringed ends reaching the hem- line. Chrysanthemums in the en- trance hall were the warm and glowing '"'gold lace' variety, with yellow cascades decorat- ing the circular staircase. A large specimen of a new var- iety, "Cream" was used in the solarium where the reception line awaited the guests.
