8 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Saturday, October 19, 1963 bY ANN LANDERS - Door-Mat Mothers Earn Little Respect Dear Ann Landers: I would like to comment on the letter from the mother who com- plained that her children had the upper hand. Good grief! I'm only 14 and I know that any mother who lets her kids step all over her is plain stupid. My mother works all day and my brothers and I do plenty for ourselves. (My brothers are 15 and 16.) We get our own break- fast, take care of our own rooms and arrange for our own transportation. Please don't think we are un- derprivileged. We are a normal family with a nice home and plenty of advantages. The mother who wrote that letter should quit chauffeuring' her kids around. She is making semi - invalids out of them. They'd have more respect for|te her if she stopped being a door mat. If her kids are so helpless with her around, I'd hate to|form her that she is under no think what they will be without her. -- CLAYTON; MISSOURI TEEN Dear Clayton Teen: Your let- ter is an eloquent expression of what I've been trying to get across to parents for years. Thank you for saying it--and saying it so well. I hope all mohters whose kids are running them ragged will see your letter and recognize themselves. Dar Ann: My husband is having an affair with the woman next door. We have three children, 16, 15 and 10. She has two pre-school children. This is not his first romance | since we were married and it won't be his last. Divorce is out of the question so I have re- signed myself to his monkey- shins. He will quit running around when he is worn out and that will be in about 10 years. My husband has asked our 15- year-old daughter to baby sit (without pay) for this woman when he takes her to union meetings (they work together) and other supposedly business- connected affairs. Our daughter doesn't see why she should turn down- paying cutomers and sit without pay for this woman. I'm afraid the girl may catch on that there is something between them. Please tell me what to do.--Q.T. Dear Q.T.: Tell your hus- gy Hea now--that he'd bet- -- again ask his daugh- ter sit for the neighbor woman. Make it clear that if he}: does, you will step in and in-|! obligation to do so. You have the right, as a jmother, to protect your daugh- ter against this hurtful thing.| Be pleny emphatic and don't| back: down an inch. Dear Ann Landers: I was jmarried for 12 years to a happy drinker. The last three years of his life I supported him be- cause he was too sick to work. He died in 1961. Six months ago I married a very nice man who had never been married before. Warren is a fine person and he is very good to me. He is also wonder- ful to my nine-year-old daugh- tr but he can't seem to warm Elected Officers Installed At Mary Street Many parents recently attend- ed the first fall meeting of Mary Street Home and School Asso- ciation, Mrs, Bryce Brown ex- tended a welcome.
