irst Thomson | CARDIFF, Wales -- Here in the historic capital city of the arenes of Wales, I have been sitting in on the inaugur- ation of the first journalistic training project of the son Foundation for emerging countries, established by Roy H. Thomson 10 months ago, and 5 gd going into action. On the train nn me, coming from London to f were 11 of the 12 students, from nine different countries scatter- the world, who will up the group to un- first course of train- ing in all phases of newspaper journalism, They come from places as far apart as Calcutta and Trinidad, Jamaica and Sei- rut in the Lebanon, and all of them are looking forward with keenness to the three months they will spend in Cardiff im- proving their skills and their sius Ggala, of the vernacular Catholic daily, "Kampala", of Uganda; George Hishmeh, edi- tor of the "Daily Star" in Bei- rut, Lebanon; James Jura, of the "Daily Nation", Nairobi, Kenya; John Meyers, of the Thom-|"Guardian" of Trinidad; Mar- tin Mordecai, of the "Daily Gleaner", Kingston, Jamaica; Isaac Pepple, of Lagos, Ni- geria and Charles Henry Webb, of the "Mid-Ocean News Pictor- ial" of Bermuda. From this group it will be seen that the course is not con- fined to journalists from Com- monwealth countries, as there are two from Egypt and »sne from Lebanon among the 12 who are here. I have a young baby and a toddler--both in diapers. Should I use @ separate set of diapers for each or "mix 'em up?" A. If the diapers are used exclusively for their intended purpose there would be no reason for having a separate set for exclusive use by each child. Ordinary washing procedures would be adequate for diapers under the usual circum- stances. However, if the older child developed an intestinal infection, his diapers should be boiled for ten minutes as an extra precaution. If diapers are used for general purposes ("burp- ing cloth," etc.) interchangeable use among the two children might wel l be avoided. DEFORMED TOENAIL Q. My left toenail is thickened, deformed, and very painful. One doctor wanted to re« move the nail. Should this be done? A. It is usually advisable, as your doctor sug- gested,-to surgically remove distorted, deformed, thickened nails, especi trim away such, nails ally toenails. To simply does little good because they soon grow again in the same distorted manner. When the nail is removed surgically, regrowth can be prevei mted by treating the nail bed. In many cases, complete removal of the nail and bed is the only way id provide lasting comfort. her -- the di is and treatment of disease is the function of Z patient's personal physician.
