Campbell 'isin 'Sais To Nuts' 7 'THE MINTO CUP, Canada's emblem of supre- macy in Junior lacrosse, should come to this city gometime next week! As one of the "Joes" who ied to play the gutted-stick sport, we are prepared to stick our neck out at this point and say there's no way the Victoria Shamrocks can beat our Osh- a, Green Gaels. We would come right out and say it -- but for one thing -- those lads who play for dthe Green Gaels might happen to read it and get ideas -- too soon. They're still a long way from | winning the Canadian championship -- to be prac~ tical, they are only half-way there and even they } must admit, the easiest half -- but if they stick , to their knitting, "stay on the ball" and when on the floor, each come up with his very best effort -- then, on a good team performance, they should be able to win a Dominion title. The Victoria Sham- rocks were "given points" in the first game, even though they lost 10-7, It was pointed out that they had been on a train for more than three days, they'd lost their "legs", etc. Well, they had a fair | night's rest on Monday -- youngsters never sleep avell, the first night when away. on a big trip -- but fon Tuesday night, coach Tom Druce had them "tucked in" early and they were nursed right up | funtil last night's game-time. Result -- Oshawa 'scored four goals in the first half of the first period i and then went on from there to out-run, out-play jand out-class the Western champs. ; WE WOULDN'T want to try to scare the Green iGaels -- they're very young, as a team -- but they | whould be warned that this is still a 4-out-of-7 Lnseries. However, they should also be aware by now that they're good enough to win the title -- all they've got to do, is prove the point by doing the job. John McCauley, the Brampton acquisition, was a big asset, especially with\his two goals early in the game, After that, he was brilliant in the way he fitted in with Oshawa's style and kept up his end in defensive play. Johnny Davis got loose for three goals and as coach Tom Druce admitted last night -- "we're going to have to pay special attention to that boy' -- which means, he may have to change his own tactics, thus risking migplays by the rest of his team. Oshawa watched Bill 'Munroe last night -- trailed him like a hunting wolf -- and he was . kept almost in the "ordinary" category with this fine checking. It beings to look as if the Green Gaels have more over-all scoring potential than the Sham- rocks, If they can cover the Victoria stars and. still find other members on the roster free to do the scoring -- then this will be the kind of "team effort" that will bring victory. They go again, in the third game, tomorrow. night at Whitby Arena. Neither team is really hard-hit by injuries, so Fri- day night's game is the next. big one. Victoria Shamrocks have to win this one, or their position will be almost hopeless. The Green Gaels know this and they'll be out to win tomorrow night, playing harder than they've played in either of the first two 'games.
