Wham! One heavy line snaps singing tight. Instantly the Miss Towne and Country leaps ahead with her throttle wide open. The 800-yard line begins screaming' off the big reel as the thick stubby pole bends in its pipe socket. Skipper Alec Boudreau mate- rializes beside the rod. He un- hooks a light bamboo pole that had been used to hoid the line away from the gear trailing the other bait. In a trice he has the second line, still dragging its squid, ~ |reeled in. Now he transfers the tod to a swivel between the legs of the fisherman in the heavy And Dr, Fraser Walsh of St. John's is ready for the battle with his first tuna. He is an ex- pert salmon fisherman, but sal- mon haven't the brute strength of 500 pounds of yg tuna. With Boudreau beside him, he puts pressure on the line to check the first mad rush. Next he starts rocking the rod up, then dropping it down to reel in few feet of his line. Boudreau, watching the pro- gress of the line through the valet, anticipates the bluefin's every move. He signals his helper at the helm, and the boat continually changes course and speed, occasionally even mov- ing astern, A native of Wedgeport;N.S., where he learned how to tight tuna, Boudreau knows how to keep the weight of the 40-foot boat pulling against the bluefin. Golfers Win Three-Way Canada Next MONTREAL (CP) -- United States golfers defeated Canada and Great Britain to win the triangular team competition for senior players at the Royal Montreal Golf Club Friday. The U.S. picked up 22% points in the two-day tournament with Canada just three points behind. Great Britain trailed by 10% points. In the triangular matches, played every second year, each of the three countries enters a 12-man team. They plan two-ball matches on the first day and singles on the second. man teams--12 for the triangu- lar matches and four more for the annual Devonshire Cup matches. Thursday Canada and USS. each won four of eight two-ball matches to finish tied in the Devonshire Cup play held in conjunction with the triangular event. Canada and the U.S. field 16-|.
