He said a car driven by John Victor Newman of 111 Kings crescent, Ajax, was southbound on Harwood avenue when i went out of control and hit a had hydro truck parked on the west side of the road. Newman lost two front teeth when he bit a piece out of the steering wheel at the time of the accident, the officer said, Newman said he had not slept for 20 hours prior to the acci- dent and fell asleep at the wheel, Magistrate Harry W. Jermyn commented that Newman had already paid a fine of two front teeth when he gave him the minimum of $50 and costs. Squealing Tires Cost Youth $5 AJAX (Staff) -- An Ajax Youth who backed his car up "with tires squealing for a dis- tance of 50 feet' in the Ajax Shopping Centre, ended his high powered reverse action with a fine in Ajax Magistrate's Court Thursday. An off-duty Ajax Police Of- ficer, Sgt. William Shaw said that on May 30 he had observ- ed a car being driven by Mur- ray Mulligan, 18, of 4 Birch crescent, Ajax, in the Ajax Shopping Centre. He said the car was being re- versed with tires squealing for a distance of 50 feet. The court was told of Muili- gan's extensive record when he was fined five dollars and costs for creating unnecessary noise. CITY AND DISTRICT NO DAMAGE The Oshawa Fire Department had five vehicles rushing down to the Oshawa Shopping Centre early Wednesday to answer an alarm from the Bowling Alley. A defect in the electrical wiring system caused smoke. No dam- age resulted. The city ambu- lance answered four routine calls. CARS HIT Two cars crashed at the inter- section of Bloor street west and Cubert street early today. The police estimated the damage at $225. Drivers were Roderick Ul- rich, 330 Simcoe street south, and Daniel Laurent Chabot, 387 Beverley street. There were no injuries. REPORT IN ERROR A story in The Oshawa Times of June 15 reported an accident involving Mrs. Blanche Mary Keith, 493 Finucane street, The accident occurred May 14, and no* June 14 as reported. It was learned also that Mrs. Keith's age is not 58 as previously re- ported. The Times regrets any inconvenience the report may have caused.
