But he denied the local asso- ciation indulged in political pa- tronage or had acted as a re cruiting agency. "Tt was merely a character reference," he said. New Democratic Party Lead- er Donald MacDonald esked in the legislature Monday whether 'it was normal practice for such & position to be filled by the local PC association "acting as a recruiting agency." Suspect Claims Stabbed Youth Accidentally TORONTO (CP) -- Patrick Garrity, 17, charged with the non-capital murder of his 19- year-old Toronto school chum in a fight following a high school dance, said Tuesday he stabbed the youth accidentally. The youth, Garry Graham, died of a stab wound in the throat, Garrity, who admitted taking several drinks before the dance, said some -youths threatened him afterwards. He said: "Il was scared and made a lot of threats that blood would flow, I didn't want to see blood flow. I was trying to act big to scare them." The youth denied he wanted to see blood flow, but admitted on several previous occasions he had cut his own arm after fights with his girl friend. "T loved her very much and she'd say she'd leave me Then when I cut myself she wouldn't," he said. The case continues. 5 Women Acquitted| On Robbery Counts) PETERBOROUGH (CP) --| Five atractive Toronto women posed for photographers and danced on the steps of city hall here Tuesday after being ac- quitted of charges of robbery with violence.
