McINTYRE HOOD Special London, England Correspondent to The Oshawa Times LONDON -- The three-team fight for the English Lea gu championship looks like keep- ing thrills in soccer for the rest of the season. They are so closely matched that it is im- possible to predict the ultimate winner, Justice was done when Le' cester City and Tottenham play- ed a 2-2 draw. It was a ful blooded game, brimful with ex- and it would have been a rank injustice had either team won. Both went all. out, citement, with sparkling forward play and resolute defence, and the 2-all result was just about right. Tottenham, however, were within a split second of winning. e|Just as the whistle went for half-time, Greaves scored a beautiful goal for Spurs, but the referee ruled that it had gone in after his whistle blew. In the press stand the unanimous opinion was that the referee had made a mistake, that there had been only 44 minutes of play, and that no allowance had been made for injury time. But the referee's ruling was su- preme, so Tottenham were robbed of what might have been i. Me Forest League Floor Hockey Starts Tues. Tuesday evening at Simcoe Hall Settlement House, the For- est Floor Hockey League had a registration period and exhibi- tion game games. The regula league scheduled begins next Tuesday, April 2 at 7 o'clock. A list of the teams follows: the winning goal. HOW IT STANDS A look at the top of the first division table shows how close is the race. Tottenham have 44 points and Leicester 42, each with 30 games played. But Ever- ton, with 41 points, have played only 28 games, so_ are in the best position of the three teams. Liverpool with 35 points and Burnley with 33 can now be counted out of the running. So Tottenham, Leicester and r/Everton will battle it out for the rest of the season. Leices- ter are also still in the English Cup competition, and have their eyes on the coveted league and place by beating Grimsby 2-1, but although they are two points ahead of Chelsea, they have played one more game. Stoke, with three games in hand, and on a very successful run, are only four points behind Sunder- land, are hot on the promotion trail. Two of these three teams will go up to the first division. OTHER DIVISIONS Alhough | Peterborough | still lead division three, their defeat by Port Vale put them in peril. With 34 games played, they have 41 points. Swindon have 40 points from 32 games, Northampton 38 points from 31 games and Coventry 38 points from 30 games, So the race for promotion here is wide open. The same is true of division four. Oldham, once nine points in the lead, have struck a bad patch and lost their last few games, and Brentford, with three games in hand, are now tied with Oldham at 45 points Torquay have climbed to third place with 39 points from 24 games, but Mansfie!d, with %6 points, have played only 28. Crewe and Gillingham each have 35 points from 29 games, so there are six teams all strongly in the running for the four promotion places. In Scetland, positions are un- changed. Rangers, Kilmarnock and Partick all won their games, and have 37, 35 and 33 points respectively. Celtic are on the same mark, but Aberdeen dropped a point in a draw with Motherwell and went down to fifth place. It looks very much like another Rangers champion- ship. The second division title will depend on the results of a host of postponed games, It now stands like this:. Hamilton, 30 games, 38 points; St. Johnstone, 20 games, 34 points; East Stir. ling, 21 games, 31 points; Mor- ton, 24 games, 30 points. So al- though Hamilton are now league leaders, they are likely to fall behind, with St. Johnstone and East Stirling more likely to win promotion. Oshawa Minor Lacrosse Assoc.
