THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, March 20, 1963 Parents View and Discuss Film on Facts of Life At the March meeting of King Street Home and School Asso- ciation, a film 'Human Growth" was shown. Mr. J. D. Galbraith, moderator, introduced a panel who discussed why and why not this film should be shown to stu- dents. Mrs. John Dancey, Dr. J. P. Maroosis and the Rev- erend L, W. Herbert comprised the panel, Opinions expressed indicated that the film, shown to boys and girls separately, with par- ents' consent, and with parents present would do no harm, It was felt that in the school age group of 11 to 17 years, with the emotional age of greater range, few students would profit from the film. To some it would '|seem immature; to others, en- > |tirely meaningless, The facts of the film. were accurate, greatly condensed, too*much for a child to be faced with, in one twenty- minute period. The film seemed too factual, too mechanical, There was no effort to portray respect and honor for the oppo- site sex, no indication of the re- sponsibility of marriage and cre- ating children; no portrayal of the warmth of Christian love and morality. There was nothing objection- able in the film but adequate preparatory discussion should precede the showing to chil- dren. The priv- ileges are many: freedom of worship, freedom of choice, freedom of speech, freedom of education, protection from those who would harm us, and finally the privilege of choosing one's own way of. life.
