Rangers turned back the league-leading Chicago Black Hawks 6-1. Other than hold- ing the league-leading Chihawks within reach of Toronto Leafs -- the results had very little bearing on the NHL stand- ings, since mathematically, Detroit stayed just as far ahead of fifth-place Rangers, who in turn maintained their margin over the cellar-dwelling Bruins. While the major hockey der- by has just about decided the order of finish, such results as posted last night, serve to point up the fact that no team can take anything for granted. Although Mrs. Woolley and her rink defeated both New Brunswick (only defeat for the 1963 champions) and also British Columbia (the defending champions) they lost a couple of other rounds and so at the end of the 9th round last night, after New Brunswick had walloped Saskatchewan 15-1, to clinch the title, Mrs. Woolley's Ontarios were tied with British Columbia for runner-up position.
