20 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tussdey, February 26, 1963 Labor Minister Sends Greetings The Editor in Chief, I am indeed happy to be able to send a letter of congratulation to the Oshawa a gg the publication once aga 8 year of the "Business Review and Forecast for 1962". This publication performs a valuable service to the expand- * {ng community and is one which everyone will find useful. I am, of course, happy that Oshawa and the district are en- joying a period of expanding prosperity, due to the continuing ard movement in automo- bile production, brought about to some extent by the improved business climate and by meas- ures which the Federal Govern- ment has taken to assist that industry. The automobile industry is the cornerstone of our progress in this area and it is a source of great satisfaction that progress has been so marked this year. I ghare completely in the re- marks made recently by Mr. E. H, Walker, President of General Motors of Canada Limited, on his election as President of the Canadian Automobile Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Walker pointed to the fact that most economic indicators teveal prospects for continuing expansion in 1963. This is a realistic appraisa! f Hambly's Firm 44 Years Old Forty-four years ago Hambly's began the bottling of Coca-Cola in Oshawa, under contract with Coca-Cola Limit- ed. Through the years the busi. ness has progressed with the availability and popularity of the drink itself. The first bottling plant was established on Bond street in 1$i8. From there the firm moved to Oshawa boulevard in 1923. They bottled Coke in that location until a further expan. sion was necessary in 1942. After that the business moved to a plant on King street west until 1960. Now located at 385 Bloor street west, Hambly's Bever- ages (Oshawa) Limited made available to the consumers in Oshawa and district many new School System ere 'packages, With the trend to- wards larger packages, and s people doing more entertaining g at home today, brought about Coca-Cola being produced in| As an indication of Oshawa's five different sizes. MICHAEL STARR It is interesting to note that! in 1962 payrolls in the industry; increased by more than $11,000,- 000, and that employment 11 the industry has now risen to a monthly average of 33,750, an increase of almost 2,000 over last year. A great deal of this increase has been in Oshawa. Mr. Walker pointed out that temporary surcharges on im- ported motor vehicles and the devaluation of the Canadian dol- lar has been instrumental in How fo have a "NEW HOME" al the old address Let us show you how you can make your present home match your dreams!
