10 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Saturday, February 16, 1963 SPORTS MENU Private Game Leases. | By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' * WHITBY DUNLOPS have been rapping on the Oshawa Generals' door ever since the season got ' ander way and a couple of times they had the latch up but the hinges stuck, Last night, on their home ce, the Dunnies tried a new system and the combina- ton unlocked the barrier nicely. Last time out, Dun- jes charged at the General's door and tried to push heir way through. It looked as if it might work too ecause the homesters had a 5-0 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of play -- but Generals came back stronger and finally eked out the decision. Last night, the Dunnies tried different tactics and were auccessful. Instead of trying to push the door in -- they waited until the Generals weren't holding too tightly, and then Whitby pulled the door open -- and walked into the victory room. Oshawa Generals were phead at the end of both the first and second periods last night -- a reversal from previous pattern -- but although they had a lot of good chances in the final period, Ray Reeson, Whitby goalie was in top form to hold the Oshawa snipers off, as Jimmie Couch had tlone to the Dunlop attackers in the second stanza, AND NOW we find Dunnies only two points be- hind the Generals and Brampton 7-Ups and the scramble for playoff berths must now embrace all four clubs -- Knob Hill, Brampton, Oshawa and Whit- by. Tomorrow afternoon, at Maple Leaf Gardens, we find Whitby Dunlops meeting Neil McNeil Maroons dn the first game of the afternoon's twin-bill while Oshawa Generals take on Knob Hill Farms in the second half. With the Dunlops rolling right along in high gear at the moment, it wouldn't surprise this corner too much, to see them knock off Neil McNeil tomorrow afternoon right in Toronto or at least tie the Maroons 'for a split in points. Oshawa Generals have to face up to it -- they need a win Sunday after- noon over Knob Hill, or they're going to be in a slump. But then, Generals could also surprise against Neil McNeil Maroons, when they tangle with the league- leaders on Monday night in Bowmanville. Word is out -- the Maroons will be far from "top strength" for their game tomorrow and perhaps the same, on Monday, Their ace goalie, Gary Smith, has his ankle 'in a cast and will be out for a few games, with Bill Henderson donning the big pads as a replacemnt. BRIGHT BITS: Jim Beatty, the pint-sized U.S. miler, who has said he can run the mile under four 'minutes any time he pleases, made it stick last night 'in Madison Square Garden when he won:the Baxter "Mile in 3:58.6 -- a new world's record for indoors 4... POP IVY has signed a new contract as head coach 'and general manager of the Houston Oilers in the 'AFL and we are wondering if perhaps Jackie Parker twill end up on the Ivy vine in time for the next foot- *ball open. BOB MANN, "the former Truro, Nova Scotia resident, who moved 'to Ontario about three years ago, skipped his youth- 'ful Hanover rink to their 7th-straight win in the 'British Consols "eights" at Hamilton yesterday, to 'complete the clean sweep into the Dominion "Brier" 'championship at Brandon, next month, as Ontario's 'representatives.
