Diefenbaker, 67, is believed suffering from Parkinson's dis- fase, also known as 'shaking paralysis. Still showing traces of tan from his Bahamas vacation, Mr. Diefenbaker first chal- lenged any reporter to match him in a physical examination. "The hopes and expectations of the Liberal party in propa- gating that type of perfidious comment are their own an- swer,"' he said. "I never felt better and I think that is one reason they feel so badly." He smilingly recalled tha' Canada's first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, went through the same sort of thing ir 1882, Sir John had remarked that 'If my health were influ, enced by the prayers of my op- ponents, I would be awfully sick." When reporters pressed him later fon a specific statement about the report that three min- isters prpposed his resignation, he issued the challenge to a race. He'd been good at running once, he remarked, adding with a sly grin "I'll be awfully good running again soon,." He paused for a few seconds then added: "In the next year or so."
