ROBERT VICKERY, SIXTY YEARS WED Felicitations From Far And Wide Shower On Pair Celebrating Diamond Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs, Robert Vickery *celebrated their diamond wed- ding on Monday, November 5, by welcoming many friends and relatives amid a bower of flow- ers at the home of their daugh- ter, Mrs. Harry Brockwell, King street west. Assisting Mrs. Brockwell was their other . daughter, Mrs. Sydney Burgess of Courtice and their grand- daughter, Mrs, Robert Tumey. Over two hundred guests sig- ed the anniversary book, in the charge of little Miss Janice Tumey, the eldest of their great grandchildren, at a table which held an exquisite bouquet of 25 pink roses, one from each of their 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The dining table was center- ed with a crystal basket of orchid and pink flowers, flanked by orchid tapers in tall crystal candelabra, Pouring {ea in the afternoon were Mrs. Clifford Vickery, Mrs, Harry Canfield, Mrs, Alfred Austin and Mrs. Harry Pellow, while Mrs. George Brockwell, Mrs. Ralph Naylor, Miss Loftie Newton and Mrs. Clarence Kay took charge in the evening. The Misses Beverley and Bon- nie Burgess and Miss Cheryl Vickery, granddaughters, Miss Susan, Foster, a great- niece, assisted in serving the guests, MARRIED IN WHITBY Mrs. Vickery, the former Miss Louise Foster, received in @ blue crepe and lace gown with an orchid corsage. The couple was married sixty years ago by the Reverend John Abrahamson in Whitby and have lived the greater part of their married lives in Oshawa. A host of cards was received; telegrams from different parts of Canada, the United States and Bermuda and one from Her Majesty the Queen, greatly treasured as both Mr. and Mrs. Vickery are of pioneer stock with their roots going far back into British soil. Mr. Vickery was born in Rag- lan where his grandparents had settled and was the youngest of ten children born to Joseph Vickery and the former Mar- garet Miller, daughter of the Reverend John Miller. Mrs. Vickery's ancestors were the first settlers of Albion Township; one of them having the distinction of being the first white child born in that district. The family came to Oshawa from Aurora 90 years ago. Mr. Vickery is the last of his gen- eration. Mrs. Vickery, one of ten children also, has three brothers li : Messrs. Thomas and Albert Foster of Toronto and Dr. Fred Foster of Kapus- kasing. Plans were being made for the Ball Banquet to be held at the clubhouse November 14. It was suggested that the moth- ers of the ball team be asked to help with the banquet.
