New Home and Sc' hool 'Assoc. Vincent Massey Starts 4th Year Vincent Massey Home and School Association, organized in 1959, is now starting its fourth year of activities. Interest and attendance have been good and membership is steadily mcreas- ing. ; -have been educa- tional in nature and in the past year included the following speakers: Mr. Lawrence Sav- ery, Miss Enid Wallace, Mr. Robert Sheffield, Mr. George . Wilson, Mr, Donald Dodds and Mr. Richard Donald. A fiim "Family Circles" was followed i, by discussion in small groups. ': Other films shown during the year were 'Dangerous Stran- ger" and a Red Cross Water Safety film. This latter was fol- lowed by demonstrations and ' talks given by. Mr. William Bag- nall and Mr. Murray Walker. "The Future in High School Education' was the tope for Fathers' Night. Those taking part in the panel discussion were Miss Jean MacInnis, Mr. Cecil Jenson, Mr. G. S. Wil- 'Hams and Mrs. A. J. Allen, and a question period followed. A good selection of publica- tions on education, child train- ing, health and safety were available at all meetings. Open House in November pro- vided the opportunity te visit classrooms and to have explain- ed by the teachers certain as- pecis of the curricula of the various grades. Teachers and pupils provided the March pro- gram and skits, tumbling and musical numbers all . demon- strated the wide variety of the students' abilities to the many parents present. Finances for the year's activi- ties were obtained from a fam- ily donation plan, membership fees and a bake sale. Representatives from the as- sociation attended the Ontario Federation Convention -in To- ronto, Area "'C" Conference in Oshawa and Oshawa and Dis- trict Home and School Council meetings, thus gaining knowl- edge of and training in Home and School affairs. The Kintergarten Tea is an annual event each September and is. provided by the execu. tive. A dinner party was given for the graduating class and prizes awarded to the top two students. Prize money was do- nated for the ice carnival and field day and refreshment booths operated at both events. There is also a yearly room attendance prize and a treat was given to members of the school's Safety Patrol. Addition- al T-shirts were purchased and field-day outfits were fitted and cleaned by a special committee. A new project has been under- taken -- that of buying a tape recorder for the school and the contribution to the school this year was used to start this spe- cial fund. 'retary, Contributions , .were made to the bursary fund of Oshawa Home and School Council, On- tario Federation "Founders" Day' fund and the Oshawa Safety League. The association arranged for children, who wished to do so, to take part in Hallowe'en for UNICEF and $126,26 was collect- ed by them. Our present slate of officers follows: President, Mrs. N. V. All teachers and parents of 7-3 THE OSHAWA TIMES; Tuesdoy, November 6, 1962 3] Ladies' Section Oshawa Golf Club Has Long History For almost the sixty year his- tory of the Oshawa Golf Club, the Ladies' Section has been ac- tive, running golf and social events for the ladies and raising money to assist with the furnish- ing and improving of the ladies' lounge and locker room. The 1962 season started off with the Tee-Off Ball held in the club house in May. This was followed in June with a tea and | Vincent Massey pupils are in- | vited to join us at our meet- | ings. These are held at the school at 8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month from September to May. both occasions were very suc- cessful, i Each Tuesday is Ladies' Day on the golf course and Mrs. Drew Jacobi, Captain of the Ladies' Section, and her com- mittee worked hard all summer to arrange the draws and var- ious trophy competitions. These were well attended and the large number of entrants in the various trophies made for some good golf and keen competition. The Ladies' Section closed the golfing season on October 2, with an afternoon of golf and social hour. The 1962 officers were: presi- dent, Mrs: George Taylor; vice. president, Mrs. .Haréld Brain; secretary, Mrs. Ross Gibbs; treasurer, Miss May Robson. In addition to these ladies there were many members who head- ed committees and worked to make the 1962 golf season very successful.
