26 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, November 6, 1962 Auxiliaries' District Committee Represents 26 Scout Troops « ' During the past year the name was changed from Executive Board to the District Commit- tee for Scout Auxiliaries; com- prising representatives of ali 24 Auxiliaries of the Oshawa Dis- trict which include both Kedron and Courtice. The committee was first or- ganized by the late Mr. Harry Riggs with eight auxiliaries in May 1946 with Mrs. Wm.. Cor- bett as first president till 1955, followed by Mrs. E. Simmons, 1955-1958 and our present presi- dent, Mrs. G. N. Varnum, 1958- 1962. The Board made up of rep- resentatives of Auxiliaries and geerves as an advisory council to the auxiliaries in an advi-} sory capacity and act as liaison| between the Auxiliaries and District Council and also serve| as Auxiliary to the District} Council. This year celebrating the 50th year of Scouting in Osh-| awa, our May meeting in the form of a Pot Luck Supper, in- cluded a tour of the camp head- ed by Mr. S. A. Richardson, District Executive Commission, and at this time we celebrated our 16th birthday. The ladies presented the District Council with a gift of 32 tablecloths for use in the Council Hall. In August the Auxiliary cater- .ed to a dinner and picnic for the Rotary Club and the Crip- pled Children's picnic. Meals have been prepared for many functions at Camp Samac, in- cluding Leaders' Courses, Red Cross -Life Saving Course, Clergy Dinner, Group Commit- tee Dinner, cic.
