Kinettes Derive Muc In Working For The Kinette Club of Oshawa, wives of members of the Kins- men Club, has been most ac- tive in local service work dur- ing the past years. The motto of the Kinette Club during its 22 years in existence has always oeen "The Communities Great- est Need". One of the service projects from which the Kinettes derive much pleasure' is the work car- ried on by the club at the Cnhil- dren's Residence. Cwrrently the members provide special treats and remembrances on birthdays and Christmas. As additional undertaking at the Children's Residence, Mrs. Douglas Hart, chairman, recent- jy had two easy chairs re- covered, making the TV room a more comfortable room to en- yoy. The Kinette Club at present has a membership of 53 and one honorary member, Mrs. George Russell,. who are all keen to lend a helping hand whenever. possible. The Oshawa General Hospital, Cancer Soci- ety, White Cross Centre, Sim- coe Hall Building Fund, and in recent years the March of Dimes have all benefitted from the chp. Annual scholarships are being presented to students in the Home Economics Department at the Central Collegiate Insti- tute and at the Dr. Donevan Collegiate Institute. It has been the primary aim ef the club to assist the Kins- men whenever . possible... This partnership began during the war with the Milk for Britain Fundg, and the Kinettes are proud to have been able to con- tribute financially to the Kins- men Memorial Stadium play- ground equipment, the Elmer the Safety Elephant Campaign for the Schools, and the Ambu- lance for the City of Oshawa, and most recently a contribution to furnish the kitchen at the Kinsmen Community Centre. One of the largest efforts of the past years has been in the organization of the March of Dimes Campaign in Oshawa on behalf of the 'Rehabilitation Children's Aid Foundation for Poliomyelities and the Orthopaedically Dis- Club had organized the local campaign, we were able to raise approximately $50,000 for the Foundation. The Kinettes aided the Kins- men by serving lunch at the Hillsdale Manor at their par- ties every other Wednesday. The club also helps to staff the Hillsdale Tuck Shop. Auxiliary Honor Namesake At Turkey Supper On Tuesday, March 18, 1948, a meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Cecil Durno to form a Ladies' Auxiliary for Storie Park. Mrs. George Clark was the first president. AM members have worked very hard to com- plete their new clubhouse. The ladies cater to weddings and banquets and hold teas, bazaars, home baking sales, and also put on Turkey Suppers to raise money. Banquets are given to the ball and hockey teams. Christmas party for children of members, closing day free treats and races. Every -Friday night teen-age dances are held.
